Hi all,

Looking at a beautifully kept example of an '86 Mariner 2800 flybridge cruiser. Issue is that its a stern drive and it/will continue to be wet slipped in salt water. I've received advice ranging from the mercruiser 250 alpha 1will be fine if properly and regularly maintained to I'd never have a sterndrive unless it was dry stored. Any views from sterndrive owners/mechanics welcome.

Cheers - Fred

Yes I have I live not too far away. Really like the layout of the 2800. Im tall and the headroom in the saloon is great, decent dining galley and v berth. Cockpit appeared small at first glance but ok once on board and for a 28 footer. Also seating on the flybridge. Plenty of positive sterndrive stories from owners in the US

oh nice one, the mariner attracted me more than us style sports cruisers for the headroom thing. how did you find the head?. did you seatrial it at all?

The head is a bit tight Moose, particularly on headroom for me. But I reason that I won't be spending much time in there hopefully. No sea trial yet.

I looked up and it was sitting on top of the saloon - sorry for the poor humor but Jack set the tone.

Seriously though the flybridge is adequate for the size of the boat. Big enough for some company while driving but no party deck by any means and keeps the windage down. Actually a bigger area than it appears from the cockpit. Seats 2 plus skipper comfortably but could do 4 all up
