Hi folks just wondering if there is a way to stop my anchor rope untwisting I use 10mm 3 strand with a swivel joint to connect to the chain and I use a ball to lift the anchor.

What do you mean by untwisting? Are you saying the strands are just parting?

Yeah they are parting if it keeps going I will have three individual strands.

Just melt the end of the rope if it is some type of nylon otherwise whip the ends

It has a spliced loop on the end Im not sure what is going on here.

Could put some heat shrink on it at regular intervals. Not sure y it would unravel though. Sound like it wasn't made correctly?

If it's just unravelling at one end just melt the ends together

Are you towing it behind you whilst under way?

I use a float to lift and retrieve the anchor.

It's not the ends they are fine.

I reckon your anchor has to be spinning when pulling it up. Get the bigg hammer out and adjust it to tighten instead.

It is a plow and I have a swivel between the rope and chain I guess with the tension it may not swivel I would have thought this would how most people have theirs set up.

Take the swivel out and try it.
IO suspect that the pressure you put on the line using the float is forcing the untwist and the swivel allows it, problem is you can't replace that twist with normal use. You need to lay the rope out and manually retwist it back again.
Is the rope undersized for the boat?

Yep as above.
Lose the swivel and see what happens. Never used a swivel and never had a rope "untwist".

It is a 5.7 plate with 10 pound plough sounds the swivel needs to go.

I can't imagine how the swivel can be causing the problem, but anything is possible I guess.

Tow the anchor behind the boat and if it spins then hit it with a big hammer until it stops spinning.

I think if I start hitting it might end badly for the anchor.

I twisted it back together hopefully it will stay that way.

I should have said adjust it with a big hammer.
