just a little teaser for a TV show im invovled in making.
we were a bit all fatigued by all the fishing shows on tv "down here in melb there is a real abundance of them" and we wanted to do a show featuring boats a bit more
we all enjoy working on and with boats"some of us are in the industry" and thought it would be fun and nice to make a show showing how to deck out a boat.. "with a few other interesting tid bits to the show"
think.. pimp my ride... but better and less xhibit :P

very open to sugestions for things you would like to see and NOT see on our show :D

Another show? you referring to that show that is nothing more than an infomercial for a tackle chain and tackle manufacturer??????? Oh yeah they are all just ads and promos for gear not a lot of actual fishing in it.

I can't wait to see this cm sounds like it will be a good educational show. I like learning the way everyone does different things, it can only improve knowledge. From what I have come across mainly electrical wiring and sealing, and a big mention every show on using tefgel or duralac or similar product to insulate stainless screws in aluminium (my one pet hate with tinnys).

I'm surprised Chris Conroy is still about making videos.
I met him in 1986 whilst doing work experience at an Ultralight aircraft builder. He was into aircraft as well as boats. Nice guy but loved to talk. LOL

I personally would watch any fishing/boating show if it did NOT have a couple of things... An annoying host that repeats a phrase over and over, and if it featured unbiased opinions and tests on anything, I know there is sponsors to keep happy, but the current crop of shows are just too over the top when it comes to brand exposure (in my opinion) I very rarely watch a show these days, the minute some "host" appears in a sponsors shirt, says the sponsors name 20 times on every sentence, or keeps saying... stop the bus, I love your work, wooohoooo, or viss and vat instead of this and that, I just change channels.

I forgot Chris Conroy, he was probably in a way a pioneer in this sort of show, along with Ron Calcutt they were way ahead of their times, they were making fishing shows long before most of the current ones were even born, with quite heavy and cumbersome equipment, and pretty mundane boats and shock horror, 2 stroke outboards, the brand of which was never mentioned, and quite frankly, no one cared about.

Great idea moose would love to see a show with useful information on it like the wicked fishing dvds where you can actually put the information into practice. Good luck

yeah we felt the same. we were sick of it being a case of "you cant possibly catch fish without a shimano bla bla bla" we were sick of watching "and sponsoring" shows that ballooned egos more than ......were half decent to watch, we were sick of people taking liberties with production value because its "just a fishing show". and sick of endless waffle and 5 minutes if winding in a rod...

thankfully with our show sponsorship is very tight and under our own discretion. being we are fortunate to be doing a show where we can sell the final product to recoup costs for production we aren't really looking for any on screen sponsors. and being we have to sell the boat(s) there are 2.. an alloy tinny and a 20ft glass boat. we cant really plaster them up with stickers anyway.

the show somewhat follows a narrative...where if the viewer tunes in week in week out they receive the full story. however if you just flick to the show from time to time, it will still prove enjoyable "We hope!:P"
the show features kinda a tier system. we arnt doing a bush mechanic show, showing the cheapest way to do something only. there will be cheap mods. not so cheap mods and stuff we think few people have ever attempted. you dont have to replicate our boats but people might take away little bits from here and there for their own boats

showing people how to buy boats

showing some funny stuff "we filmed a score card scene at a local boat ramp recently:P"

https://www.facebook.com/tvdeckedout <-link to a sort of announcement page

there will be a "your boat" segment pre commercial break. if anyone wants to have their boat featured let us know :D

Good luck with it.
I miss Ron Calcutt and Big Rod Harrison fishing on the swifty seagull.
No plugs for some stoopid new marketing trick from a tackle company hoping to jag a dimwit angler.
No bullshit.
Excellent 70's porno music.
Unspoilt localities along the coast, with nobody whinging about how the ramp isnt 100% perfect with 9mill spent on dunnies for women and pretty landscaping and effortless parking.
Beer in steel cans and lots of it.
No parking cops, rangers, assorted sherriffs and fun police employed to ruin your fun and collect those indirect taxes they charge on top of the other taxes.
Penn 6/0 Senators loaded with 50 mono :beer:None of that girly braid shit.

Will it be like that Moose ?

i wasnt arround in an older capacity when these shows where on but ive made up for it recently.
but yeah we hope to have it come out good :D

Great idea Moose, a section for people that have done their own mods, or even built their own boat from scratch. How to fibreglass and gelcoat would be good.I need to learn this as I have some work to do on my old tub.I did like the old bertram they did a pod addition to on one of the better fishing shows of late.A hostess with bolt ons would not go astray either, just do not give her a microphone. As other have said, the infomercials fishing shows are really bad.

I reckon if there is a fishing section, it would be nice to have the fishing as it actually is, not have some hired guide take you to every spot he knows, and edit a weeks fishing so it looks like every cast is a trophy fish, just a plain and simple couple of guys having a fish, if they catch bugger all, then so be it..... That's fishing.

pipifin
29-09-2014, 10:05 AM
Perhaps a link to the shows own website, where the mods can be seen in more detail.... perhaps plans etc. For those that would like to attempt something similar at home.
It also gives you the opportunity to create a bit of a community and can open up advertising etc..... I know everyone hates ads on tv and on the computer, but realistically if it helps create a longer lasting quality show then I am all for it. Most people can see through the advertising on these shows anyway.
Sounds like a great idea so far.

I'm with you on this...luv the idea
BUT
Can u assure him that you would tune in next week if all they caught was a cpl of cockney bream and a whiting that had been half chewed by a squid ?
I might...u might...but 98% of the audience may not.
Thats probably why we get the trophy fish every cast on these shows, and 37 references to some sort of gimmick lure or overpriced reel.

Noelm
30-09-2014, 07:51 AM
While I 100% agree, some edited shows are just so blatant, reels used changed a couple of times on the one fish, different weather conditions, all sorts of crap that just makes it so hard to take, and people like (say) Michael Guest that has his Pirtek shirt in every shot he is in, we know Pirtek sponsor him, but jesus, give it a break now and then.

yeah i intend to run with a website parallel to give people more detailed step by step instructions, parts lists. cost breakdowns, photos, extended footage, sponsored links etc.
sponsorship on community tv is a bit funny so i cant just have plain and obvious or mention sponsors too easily. so usually they will be refereed to the website where more sponsorship is mentioned.

Hi CM

Love the idea for the show. The only think I have sort of seen like it is the bits on Hook Line and Sinker where they mod up old boats.

Some of the things I would like to see on it are:

1. A good deal on electrics, earthing, troubleshooting etc
2. A Sounder bake-off - comparing brands of sounders and what is suitable for different types of fishing
3. Boat Maintenance and repair (fixing paint bubbles etc)
4. Maybe the same for trailers
5. Looking after your tackle and rods
6. Bar crossings
7 Handling boats in different conditions - i.e how to use your trim and tilt properly

I guess the list could be endless but I lthink the idea for the show is great and will absolutely be watching it

Good luck with it all - viewer section may be good too

Cheers

Blair

Hello Chocolate,
this where I get to show my age.
I actually appeared on Chris Conroy's show to collect a set of spanners that I won in a comp.
I most fervently hope that there is no footage of that little chapter.
I still have those tools even if they are pretty rusty from being in boat's toolboxes.

To be honest Chris Conroy's show helped get me into boats. It was a basic production but showed me stuff Id never seen. I still have his video using the "new" Signature 1550F.

If your show can achieve the same for someone now it would be worth it just for that. Hope it goes well.

if community channels go. they go. it wont be for a little while so im acting as if they wont at this stage. its an extremely unpopular choice to can community tv so i have a feeling they will still be around. not the first time they have been "planned" to go.
that being said. we are aiming at pitching this show to ch7mate and chONE so we are trying to put ourselves in a safe position. the show will be streaming online anyway.

I dunno if I agree with that-people want to see what the possibilities are not spend an hour watching some gumby drop a skanky bit of dodgy bait on a 100 pound handline and get nothing but blowies and pissed.
Certainly editing it to show what isnt actually there isnt the way to go though.

we are going to try very hard to not really have any fishing on the show. thats one of our points of differnce. no disrespect to fishing shows, but there sure is enough of them.
we are also trying to attract non fishing people. families who cruise "We have a skiboat idea in the works for next season"

being community TV, why not consider using some of the volunteers (skippers) from Coast Guard or VMR to talk about and demonstrate different boat handling and seamanship skills.

Just the explanation, demo and need to know how to do a bowline knot. Or boat handling while doing a Williamson Turn for man over board.

Purpose of log on log off... radio calls - do the crew know how to use a radio and make a MayDay call...

Using VMR assets will give some credibility and possible funding via marine rescue sponsors...

Just pick up the old MSQ Small Ships book and cover a chapter each week or Dick Gandy's Australian Boating Manual for a lifetime...

Like the idea...

Hey Cm, I used to get up at 0600 every Saturday morning to watch Chris Conroy's world of boats when I was a rugrat. I found myself wishing there was a similar show still on TV two years ago when I was buying my boat. Can you do an episode on setting your trailer up for driving on and how to drive it on. Also a bar crossing episode would be great. How to interpret your sounder side scan etc.
Cheers

I lost interest after "trailer boat........" good luck with the show it looks like there is plenty of interest in this type of show if you ever want to do a segment on bringing a bigger marina style boat up to speck let me know, I have spent countless hours (and $$$) bringing my late 80`s Riviera 33 up to a respectable standard

yep, remember getting up and watching his show on a Saturday morning (if I wasn't going out myself) and seeing Chris's segments on Howie's Lightwings on floats.. Ended up getting to know both Chris and Howie a few years later. also ended up with a Lancair as well... be excellent to see a show similar to what CM is talking about on the airwaves instead of the crap that's being put on at the moment.. ::)

The voice over business is a funny thing, it SHOULD not matter who or what does the voice, but for some reason, some voices "have it" and some drive you nuts! not too sure what it is, whether the voice inspires confidence, or whether it's the tone/accent that can make you turn off and look for something better, one thing for sure though, the second someone catches a 500gram Whiting and everyone is hooting, back slapping and screaming, I switch off, no exceptions.
