I had a look at one today, a 4.2 SC with a 50 Etec, 1000kg braked trailer, 2 tone paint, lights, battery and safety gear etc. price negotiated is 21k, what do you think of this boat?

I got the 4.2 renagade. Love it. I got tiller steer with 50 hp 4 str yammy.

great motor for a great boat. I bought mine 3 months ago for $16000

$5000 sounds a bit much when paint job is only $600

Wow that's a great price with a 50 4st, what else came with your package, was it a 2014 model and what trailer? Most SC models on the net with a 40 4st are all starting around the 20k mark, some not even painted.
Also how's the ride and stability, is the blade hull worth all the hype?

My young bloke bought a 4.2 tiller new model hull with 40 Yammy 4st with lights etc, unpainted, price was about $17600-$17800 in FNQ. Add paint and sc minus engine price difference?
Just a guide, probably not much help.

sounds expensive for 2 cylinder engine two stroke, your much better going a 4 stroke and you should be able to get one in that price range too,

The ride is great. Had some pretty choppy weather here lately.

i had a sea jay 455 that i thought was great ,but this renegade is lot better ride.

The lay out is great, live bait tank.

the 50 4 stroke is so nice and quiet.

A great combination. I got mine from brisbane yamaha at burpengary. Just ask for peter

Thanks for the info but I'm in Vic. Looks like I'm going to go with a 440TS with a Yamaha 50 4st, includes paint, bimini, sounder, lights, braked trailer and will cost the same as the 420SC.

Just bought a 440 TS with 60 Yamaha.
There are a multitude of optional extras with various $ attached.
1000kg braked trailer not normal for 4.2 so extra $ here, underfloor fuel tank $500, bilge pump and lights extra ++++, I also bought 1000kg braked trailer from Redco but also got the HD upgrade which was an extra $650, which entails extra supports welded in, eye to eye springs as opposed to slipper, bigger wheels and then added spare wheel and carrier.
Just need to compare apples for apples and be happy with you end purchase.

Thanks ab, sounds like it will be a ripper of a boat with a 60 on it.

Nick if you going with the 440, I would upgrade to the 60. This is a heavy boat for its size and in the Yamaha at least the 50 & 60 are the same weight with very little $ difference. I sourced my hull and trailer off 1 boat yard and another for the motor. The trailer and hull price was the best (with trade in) but they did not sell Yamaha which I specifically wanted.
So far so good but too early to say. I have owned a lot of boats and this one seems to suits our future needs.

Yeah the 60 would be nice but I've totally blown the budget now, originally I set a limit of 10k for a new tinnie, then went to 15k for something a little more deluxe and now all up just over 20! I'm also getting the motor from another dealer who can do a much better price and are a lot closer for servicing.

A Yamaha 50 4st is well over 8k just on it's own! Not even fitted!

Thats a joke you'd get a 60HP Mercury Big Foot with Big Tiller for that kind of money and 3 year corrosion warranty 5 year mechanical Warranty, the amount of Yamaha motors ive seen lately that have failed is ridiculous and I was a massive Yamaha fan but now not so much, no im not going to elaborate into a Yami bashing thread as i love the product but its not as good as we think and is getting as much failure if not more than others

I paid $7850 for the 60 Yamaha + $160 for battery and box + $80 for fuel filter - $8090 fitted and this could have got it cheaper by $300 but the tyranny of distance precluded this option.
Lots of people discussing corrosion on various brand motors but I believe a big percentage are directly related to non replacement of internal anodes. I have a mobile mechanic do my outboards and he shows me each anode and we discuss replacement on each service. Call me sceptical but I have concerns about retail yard type service centres even looking at the anodes.
If you look at what the pros are using it generally gives a fair guage of reliability. Many years ago the pro crabbers in the western gulf area went from Yamaha to Suzukis and a few years ago it looked like some were reverting back to Yamaha.

Your lucky, they're so much cheaper up there, I can't find anything in Melbourne for that price. My last motor was a Honda 90 and many people warned me about corrosion, I owned it for 12 years and there was never an issue.

I know it's not exactly the same but I just bout a 429 Stacer Outlaw TS with a 50hp Etec for $16500.

Congratulations! The same layout/deck as the renegade but different hull, sounds like a good deal you got.
I took the new 440 out in 15kt winds on Port Phillip for it's maiden voyage and it did surprisingly well in the chop, it had quite a soft ride (better IMO than my much larger Trailcraft), we also stayed dry and it was reasonably stable at anchor, even with two blokes leaning over the side so I'm pleased with it. Oh, and also christened the boat with a nice Snapper on the first trip to so she's been blooded!
