Hey all

have a VDO hour meter that is reading at twice the speed of actual

ie in 30 minutes it goes and adds an hour

any one else ever seen this or have a solution?

working correctly re when engine not running and key on, records no reading

thanks in advance

Run the motor (on trailer with muffs on) in reverse for 1/2 the time you spend going forward.

Is the voltage correct ie: 12 or 24

Stickers on it advises multi voltage?

so not that

Sounds like it's broken. Warranty?

Does it have dip switches for different voltages?, otherwise i don't know, maybe faulty.
I thought they clocked over when ignition on, polarity maybe?

I dimly recall that the hour meter for a 4 stroke and 2 stroke were different, but then again a lot of beer and wine has flowed under the bridge since then. Also if the meter is ok then I suspect your rectifier (once again memory failure) in the motor could be faulty and should be checked. I am sure there was a thread on this issue a couple of years back.

Now that I start thinking about it I think this all related to the Tacho meter but there could be a relationship there somewhere.

most hour meters simply run off the ignition, turn the ignition on, it supplies 12V to the meter and away it goes, so unless it is some sort of digital setup that runs off the ECU somehow, then it maybe wired wrong, seeing as you say it doesn't go with just the key on?

Meter is or advises 8-32 volt.

no obvious anything that you can change on the outside

it is just a two pole like any other so a positive and neg post.

Only reading when engine is running, no signal when key on and engine not running.

maybe just a faulty gauge
