So out there is the steering expert.
At the ramp this morning I put the boat in the water and went to drive off the trailer when half way down the steering went really light and I had no control. One look under the dash and the cable was feeding out along way.

So what the process for replacing the cable, its the worm drive type. Do I just replace the inner cable part or buy a whole new setup, cable steering box etc.

Cheers all.
Sam

New cable, can't replace just the inner, the helm could be still OK, you will need to check that before getting parts, sometimes a complete "kit" is the best way to go, the cable length will be stamped on the outer near one end.

ok perfect, that has saved me heaps of time pulling out and measuring it.
It an Ultraflex M66Ft16 434

Am I best to replace it with the same or is there better brands, Teleflex etc.

Spend the extra bucks and get hydraulic steering. ;D you wont look back and you'll wonder why you didn't get it years ago. I did, got the system supplied and fitted by Spaniard King... best money I ever spent on my boat.
