What a great anchor winch this has been. I stripped it down out of curiosity. The manual used to say check the gearbox every 3 years although Maxwell now say it's sealed for life. The engineering is beautiful and you can see where the money goes in the heavy lumps of brass and stainless. It can be run as freefall or power down. It's a very quick winch and very quiet compared to Lewmar's I have heard. You couldn't go past it in my view. It handles rope and chain without a hitch - you can run all chain rode if you want. Never overheats.
