Anyone else see foreign correspondent tonight? Had a story about the President of Palau who wants to ban all forign commercial fishing within its economic control zone. This bloke is a true legend. Our various state government leaders could learn a lot from this man.

It was a good program, uphill battle ahead of him by the looks as up against well monied rape and pilligers but he seemed pretty determined.

I was shocked that the Southern Bluefin is down to 4% of its original stocks, that is a pretty full on fact.

Was it southern bluefin they said was at 4%? I heard 4% but missed what species it was. That has got to be dangerously close to species collapse. Hopefully he is successful with the ban and Palau becomes a shining example of the true economic value of fish in the water as opposed to fish in a can. Perhaps then maybe some foward thinking aussie pollies will see it too
