Transom worries!

Hey all,

Installing some new gear tonight drilled a 20mm hole in the back of my bluefin to fit a pair of cables through, then going to get a seal and silicon it up neatly. On the drill through I hit a bracing flat bar by the looks, one on top of the hole I cut straight through, the one on the bottom is fine. The transom has 2 braces inside the hull going to the bow on an angle, 2 V like 80mm wide angles going vertical and a bar going across the transom left to right... plus these inside?


Is the damage I have done going to make it structurally weaker? I dont beleive so, but it will be good to get that cleared up. If I have, what should I do to rectify the problem.

It is a bit hard to tell by the photos, but it will most likely be ok at a guess. Did you consider taking the cables over the top instead and placing them in conduit? If the hole is only 20 mm I would finish the job off and keep an eye on it.

Is that somewhere near the splash well on the transom if so I wouldn't be to worried as it's well supported around that area .. Matt

It will be fine Matt. That piece is only in there to stopthe compression of the transom skin when you bolt the outboard up.
