I have a task to build some seat boxes. The design brief is to include a drinks/fish esky underneath and mount a pedestal up the front.

These will be mounted I to the boat using screw down solid glass flange around them.

Well here is a picture for you to all visualise.

Anything that someone has always wanted to change about their seat boxes?

Construction methods for anybody that has built one before?

I always prefer a fish esky that can be extracted from the boat to be emptied, cleaned and dried. Makes clean up a heap easier

Could you make it so a nally box would fit inside, so you could use that to empty contents?

Looks good Damo.
Have you seen boatbox, you might get some ideas there.

You could even plumb in a drain that would connect to a bilge pump to drain maybe?

All glass, ply & glass or ply & paint?
Watch the weight.
Watch the finished seat height for the boat they're going in.

Last boat I had i went the built in esky/seatbox option and current boat has eskies under seat frames . I was a big fan of built ins until I bought the latest boat. Built ins on a Sig540F , I got a f/glasser to make the boxes out of glassed ply with esky foam insulation etc. They def are heavier.

Rreally the removable eskys are just so much more convenient. I got new lids made from glassed ply and got upholsterer to make cushions. Costs probably ended up similar, but you would have to factor in ss frames ala Cruisecraft/Tournament as well. The poly style eskies are really good as far as weight, and durability go, also not too bad for insulation...plus you can use them in other boats, parties etc...http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/vbpgimage.php?do=full&p=3533&d=1361598179

Well the construction will be refrigeration foam 50mm for esky part and either ply top pocket. Or a high density foam.
Ply base obviously for the seat mounting plate.

Epoxy resin and glassed everywhere. Structural fillets.

The bung will drain to a self draining deck.

The boxes will replace pedestals and heights will match.

Qlder. That's a good solution there.

watching with interest here rip it up !!!
going thru the same thought process myself, I hate those damn pedestal set ups !!
I have a huge live bait tank on the back, made out of ply, old but nice enough looking, but recon I'd have 15- 20 kg of weight sitting there empty, and it holds about 60-70 litres. need weight off the back to go to 4 stroke ! so looking at utilising seat pods, 1- live bait tank, 1- esky !
keen to see which way u go....

I've used the vanglass offcuts as well for other projects. But I'm struggling to get them on theogony to order more foam.
