Hmmmm ..... Let me gaze into my crystal ball.....

Ah yes, i see a boat ramp, and at the top I see a fair vessel, the new pride and joy, about to be launched.... And the owner carefully preparing it, but wait....

A mere moment of distraction, just an instant, and the safety chain and winch strap are released, and the trailer backed towards the water......

Ooops! Too late! Aaaarrrrggghhhhh!!

Ouch, glad you have it back nice and shiny and you are happy of the outcome with haines signature. I remind my crew every time about not undoing the safety chain until it is in launch position, this isn't for their benefit but mine as I was just as guilty as they once were.

Nice work done by Signature. I will go on to say due to all the Haines Hunter jabber going on at the moment that The Haines Group are the complete opposite to all that is being said about the HH company.
The Haines Group have gone out of their way in the past for me and for someone to show up and request a repair to their boat shows that some companies actually do care about the wider boating community.
Nice to see a good outcome Jsm. Jim

Nice to see a good outcome Jsm. Jimyes with the negativity surrounding that word (Haines) I made sure that I quoted HAINES SIGNITURE (GROUP)as doing a great job don't want people to confuse the two company's.

OUCH! I only ever back off my safety chain so its easier to undo at the water and not hold anyone up but NEVER take it off. Least the beers are flowing nicely now ;)

what, that repair cost you $1500?yes it did i thought the same

I think the repair cost would be about right. Grinding back to solid glass. Dry out the area. Build up the glass structurally to a surface 2mm below original gelcoat. Cure overnight.
Start the multi coat gelcoat painting. Brush or spray.
Then probably a day spent sanding and polishing. 2/3 days work involved.
$500 per day.

Damo's dodgy boat building factory.

I got a whole transom, stringers, front bulkhead and floor redone in my haines 490SLC from arnolds for $6K, seems a bit pricey, but it does look like a good job

you did go through insurance didn't you?

Jsmfun
22-07-2014, 08:02 PM
Originally sent the damage pictures through for a rough quote they quoted $900 but when I took the boat in it went up to 1500 as there was around 4 layers of glass and to get a good finish the had to sand heaps of gel coat back so they could blend in over the edge and they had it 6 days and it is a smick job they did well IMO

No I was not going through insurance as I thought no point at 900 but just scrounged around for another 600
