G'day All,
I am new to the forum, as I am new to boating and have just purchased a boat to get my family out on the water.
My question is this...The boat I bought is brand new, with a brand new 60 HP Merc 4St. On the model plate on the right side of the leg, it has all the details including a large number 12 in a square in the bottom right corner. Does this mean they sold me a 2 year old engine? If it is brand new, is this a problem? Have there been any changes since 2012 to the Merc 60hp 4 St? Am I worried about nothing?
I look forward to your responses.
Thanks, Davo

That is the year, I wouldn't be too worried though. It's a good engine and if you treat it well you should have many years of trouble free boating. I have the 2006 model. Cheers

The explanation of model and manufactured year is explained by Mercury here http://www.mercurymarine.com/service-and-support/storage-and-maintenance/faqs/outboards/?category=modelyear

The date of sale is the most important factor, it is registered with Mercury by the dealer - you can check it and service history here http://www.mercurymarine.com.au/home/service-warranty/service-history-check.aspx
