Got new rego for a used fibreglass boat I purchased, however the old rego numbers seem to be painted directly on the hull.
I purchased a sets of vinyl stickers with the new rego number but now I realise I cannot remove the old ones without repainting the entire hull white.

Is there a cheaper/easier option available?

Just buy it from Autobarn and rub it on until writing comes off?

Yep, it'll take a bit of rubbing, it's even better if you have a proper buff. In the olden days when I was younger, all the rego numbers and names were painted on, you just buffed them off to change them.

Wet and dry sanding would be best. Start with 600/800/1200 before buffing. Make sure the polish compound you use doesn't contain any silicon or wax. Or your stickers won't last long.

Damo's dodgy boat building factory.

Hire a caramel wheel, then a quick buff. A lot easier and you shouldn't damage the boats finish.

If the hill is still gelcoat, try some Acetone, it will probably be old enamel paint, and Acetone will take it off on a jiffy!

Try oven cleaner if the hull isn't painted. That's what we used in panel shops. Don't try to remove it in one go and wash thoroughly between applications.

I used some fine sandpaper and then acetone to remove the black dust/residue. Worked great. Thanks
