Hi all,

I am looking at a new overhead for both trolling and bottom bashing. I have a TLD already with braid on it bout I want to go Mono on this one.

Looking at filling it with around 300 meters or yards of 50lb mono - probably Platypus (any other suggestions on this too?)

Have been looking at another TLD or a Penn Squall or a Marquesa

Anyone have any suggestions or opinions on the non TLD options?

Cheers

Blair

I use a tyrnos 20 for trolling for Spanish macks. There a faster retrieve than the tld"s and not too expensive. You can get the in a 16 size which is a bit smaller. They used to make a 12 too but I think they only make that size in a 2 speed now.

I would put the mono on your TLD and get a high speed overhead for the Braided line, like a Daiwa Saltist or similar,

They weigh less, they are smoother and of course They retrieve faster.

Good advice there. Grab a Saltist, Torium or better still a Marquesa. The Release SG certainly fits the bill as well. If you want to keep your TLD as is then consider the Penn Squall. They were available for under $100 a few weeks ago

Talica or Torsa.... You wont regret it. I have the talica 10, 12ii, 16 & Torsas... Quality gear lasts.

Got a Torsa 16 for sale - $550... All but brand new.

Thanks for all the advise guys, I really want to go for the Tyrnos but found a Penn Squall for $90 so pretty hard to turn down at that price. I will be saving the pennies for a Tyrnos though - they look like an awesome reel but bit of a budget stretch at the moment unfortunately.

Now I would like to find out what everyone likes form a mono point of view - I am thinking Paltypus Low Stretch 24kg but open to suggestions.

I use the lo stretch Pink and like it. I use 15kg for most stuff but have a TLD 25 full of 24kg for serious stuff

Penn squall 16, awesome reel, really smooth, great drag and cheap as chips. Caught a 50kg marlin on 8kg line and it handled really well.
