Hi all,
I am heading to Swains Reef next month. I went 2 years ago and had a ball. My primary outfit back then was a Saltist 6500 with #5 braid on a Daiwa Monster Mesh MM582MHS rod which I found to be a good outfit and will be taking it again. We mainly fish throwing pillies and cut baits on gang hooks in usually less than 40m of water. This time round my brother is going too so we are in need of a second outfit. I have a Saltist 4500 already but would need a rod for it. Two questions:
1) Would this reel with 50 pound braid be up to it?; and
2) if so what rod would you guys with better knowledge than I recommend for it? I was thinking either a Monster Mesh Max MXS531-250 or a T-curve TCJ200SP.
I am not keen to buy another 6500 outfit (unless necessary) but then I don't want to take a water pistol to a gun fight either and then be disappointed. Good advice would be greatly appreciated!

You'll have no issues with a 4500 saltist. It'll handle 50lb fine. They make 10kgs of drag. You'll never use it. I have used an 8000 stradic out there with 30lb. The only thing is it gives the sharks more of a chance. I'm assuming you'll be doing a meat run for trout, RTE etc. I'd go the daiwa rod.
