I am after a new off road trailer to go up/down Cape York and across the Top End i am based out of Port Douglas.
Boat is a 4.5m 4mm plate with 3mm sides n tops.

Have spoken to Tait Welding in Atherton 10K :o for a tilt trailer bloody tough though in steel it will be heavy..
Pics at the bottom of this thread.

Getting a quote from Norweld Engineering in Cairns also who specialise in Ally.

Would love to hear some reports from guys who use off road trailers i do not possess the neccessary skills to make my own sadly.

Will run Patrol wheels 33 inch tires
Not decided on solid axle or independant yet
Tait make a tilt trailer that seems awesome but for 10K is that worth it?

Cheers for any & all feedback including pics much appreciated.

The pictures in the link of the Taite look good mate........IMO 10k is not "over the top" for price really......Theres a lot of work gone into that trailer and someone has to make a few dollars from it.

I think it would be money well spent and good piece of mind knowing you have a well built trailer under your rig.......just something else you need not worry about really.......also definatly think about the "third wheel concept".....well worth the extra money when it comes to dodgy boat launching off of river banks.

I had a custom trailer done for my 5mtr Origin......it's not an off road trailer as such but a hell of a lot better built than a mass produced name brand one..........Go for it I reckon.

Thanks Dan yes i have worked out to mount the spare on a hub welded to a piece of plate that then is bolted to the frame under the Bow.
When needed i can unbolt it & bolt to the drawbar so the whole trailer becomes a 3 wheeler & can be winched or dragged out with rope etc.... Thought about a hub welded on draw bar but i think i would keep hitting my legs on it LOL..

Yeh alot of work will see what the ally one comes in at but i guess its also a matter of how many times a year you use it versus what it costs.

Belco do off road custom trailers (or at least used to) with air bag suspension which is so smooth on the boat. Do not go ally for off road under any circumstance.

Not sure if ally or gal steel is more prefferable off road i know the ally is about double the price which is why you dont see too many i guess.

Alloy if not built properly can and will crack due to fatigue, steel is a lot more forgiving to vibration and flexing........an alloy trailer can be made work but the work and materials used that would go into it is why the price is so high I would guess.....IMO stick with steel......it's easily repaired on the side of the road and can be done by just about anyone
