Well at least I got your attention. !!! :)

It seems our Government is prepared to stop the Beacon to Beacon Publication.

Action has been taken to attempt to make them re-think and part of this is a survey aimed at finding boaties requirements etc.

Could you please take the time to fill it out.

That's been on the cards for a while now there was talk about it when they printed the 12th edition. Apparently the 13th is the last printed copy and then it will be available in a digital format, which makes question 7 interesting.

Have they changed the rules re charts? My understanding was that a GPS unit, even one with mapping, was not acceptable by itself as a map?

Rules have changed. navigation charts / equipment are now " recommended "... not " required ".

If you want the last edition in print you can order it on line from DTMR via Staples for $20.70 plus $4.71 ie $25.11 which is some $5 cheaper than some other boat stuff places.

I own a copy but the dumb survey won't let specify a NSW address.

Charlie fill in Springfield and then in the "other box" say "not Springfield but yes XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX " ie where you are . Dont let computers boss you around! We are smarter than them!!

To my knowledge Beacon to Beacon is the only publication that has maps of most Qld lakes. I have 2 gps units twhere the lakes either do not exist or just show a blue blob in the general vicinity.

Done, like Charlie I was a little perplexed as to the list of suburbs polled, why a section of the are south of Brisbane. I also had to do the Springfield thing.

That is friggin awesome for us sailors who race these waterways!!! Now I can print a copy, mark the course and laminate!

OF course its also awesome for general navigation. Rather than having the whole book, just print the pages you need before you head out and laminate using the cheap arse aldi laminator and laminating sheets!!

Here is a tip if you print several pages and laminate. Cut the top ear off the printed page before you laminate so you have a clear sealed area of laminate where you can punch a hole through and use a keyring to hold several pages together. If you punch a hole through the laminate where there is paper is seperates when it gets wet.

I really like the detailed designated anchorages section in the Beacon to Beacon publication.

I think it's a disgrace - this is a VITAL publication that should be compulsory on every vessel operating in QLD waters.

Takes away the good old "I didn't know" excuse.
