Hi all,
I've been looking at a few 5.2 kevlacats for sale. I'm failing to understand
the difference in hp rating. With same size pods some seem to be rated 70 and others at 90hp? Anyone enlighten me on the difference?

As far as I am aware there is no difference between the hulls/pods for either model. If you're thinking of purchasing one rated to 70hp and want to repower with 90's I'd ring Kevlacat and see if they'll give you a new manufacturers plate rated to 90hp.

1. Wasn't the rating on the plate relative to the particular "model" even though all models had the same identical pods?

Thanks for the info,
From what I have read the cuddy came with 60's and the pro/tournament came with 70's.
I cant seem to find info on 90's being a standard option.

On a lighter note.
I am now the proud owner of a 5.2 KC! here are a couple of crappy photos.
1999 black marlin, twin 60's. I feel like more power would be better, but beggars cant be choosers eh.

Ah ok, for some reason embedding pictures through an iPad isn't very reliable.
fix me up when I get home tonight.

I have been in lots of different 5.2s and everyone I have been in with 70's or less have been just OK at best, they need to be run near flat out all the time, a pair of 90's transform the boat altogether, but do indeed need added floatation to support the weight, unless the old 90 2 stroke Yamahas are fitted.

Yeah I would agree Noelm, but I don't think any of the old 5.2 have legitimate plates rated to 90hp. The 5-6 cats I looked at all were rated to 70hp. Maybe the occasional one rated to 90 hp had their owners write to KC for a new compliance plate.

The later ones i think 95 onwards had a 90 rated plate. My old 1997 model black marlin had a 90 plate on it. Congrats on the kc purchase! Was it from up the sunny coast? Lovey80 has my old girl it is a twin to yours. Surely a lightweight 90 is on the way. 5.2 kcs would benefit immensly from them!
