The team at Barney's also check the trailer over etc - so it is a full service & I couldn't be happier :-)

We'll be down at The Urangan Marina today with both my boat & the side console version for any one wanting to have a look & maybe even take one for a run ;)

Just asking opinions I just got my first service 20hour at a Suzuki dealer on the phone he said first service is $375 minus parts . We worked out there is no parts as it is a new service. I said ok book me in he just call and told me the cost was $600 the boat was literally in his boat yard for 3 hours. I am pretty sure I have just been ripped of he also said he put 8 litres of oil in for a cost of $140 (it's not gold) can anybody explain why this has cost so much as he did not use any parts

JSm, they had to use parts

Engine Oil... yep they take 8 litres
Oil Filter
Sump Plug Washer
Gear Oil
2 gearbox sump plug washers
Possibly a water trap filter
Grease and workshop supplies $10-15
The rest is labor.. at $375

The oils and oil filter change is designed to remove any of the manufacturing oils and lubricants and any metal deposits that are left during the manufacturing process

its standard on all 4 strokes

20 hr also is a valve clearance check/adjust if needed.

Thanks Spaniards_king I have never owned a 4 stroke I suppose I only braced myself for around $400 extra $200 surprised . me he should of at least told me I would have to pay a bit more for oil

Yeh, you need to ask for the bottom line price like with anything these days, lucky your not payin for V6 Yammy oil filter $80.00

There is no such thing as a standard cost anymore they should give the customer a heads up at least as it's a extra third of the price . It would not of bothered me if he said $375 service and around $200 for oil and sundries at least I would of expected a bigger bill

Just on the labor side of things; here we charge labor out at $100 ($30 odd to the techie) per hour (refrigeration servicing) so $150/hr for an outboard service probably isn't to bad for the kind of service you should be getting.

This has been done before, the actual labour charge is not in question (well to me anyway) what is in question is.. someone charges (say) 3 hours labour, and do a damn fine job, and check everything that should be checked (regardless of what a manual says) but then, another dealer charges the same 3 hours, but changes the plugs, oil and filter only and tells you that your motor was "serviced" Being serviced means a lot of different things to different people, most dealers down my way have a more or less fixed labour charge for a service for a certain HP, then divided into 2 or 4 stroke, they will give you an "estimate" on parts and lubricants because sometimes something else is noticed and needs attention. I hate paying $100 for a $20 job, but I don't mind paying $100 or a $100 job any day of the week.

That is pretty exxy for the service, Mine was around the 400-450 mark, with eight litres of liquid gold (quality oil, which I see as a good investment).

I'm not disputing the need for oil if it needs it not a prob.
im just annoyed that on the phone he said $375 and no parts? I was trying to get a rough estimate . why did he not say $375 plus 8 litres of oil , oil filter and possible bits and pieces

$375 and $600 not in the same ballpark to me

just had my 20 hour service on a mercury 150 4 stroke and cost was $320, $600 sounds steep to me.
