Hey lads, having a few problems with the Suzuki, it's a intermittent fault that's been popping up more and more lately cause the motor to start surging and won't rev over 3000rpm.

Have replaced the hi and low pressure fuel filters, new fuel pump, had the injectors tested and all seem to be spraying perfect.

Have had my mechanic out for a run but you guessed it, motor ran like a dream making it pretty hard to diagnose the problem.

Has anyone else come across this or may know what may be causing this to happen.
Cheers

Sounds like fuel restriction sometimes these problems can take some sorting. What size boat is it pushing?
I have a 6.4 meter and would luv it to be big enough, as I think the 200 is to heavy

If its not reving over 3000rpm to me that means its might be a sencer, temp or oil, if something is going on the computer limits the revs to protect it surely when a computer is hooked up to it it should tell the mechanic were the problem is going on.

Has the primer bulb been replaced too? That was the issue with one of my DF140's. Primer bulb was collapsing at higher rpm restricting fuel flow.

LipperKing,

Zukes are electronically governed and don't surge as such, they just drop rpm, (test in a water tank out of gear).

when you say you cant rev past 3000 rpm, do you mean you have just started the motor, put it in gear, push the throttle and the engine freely revs to 3000 rpm but wont go past it?

Do you have an nmea 2000 connection to the Engine?

Regards
Honda.

Hi

if you are in neutral you will not rev past 3000 rpm and the motor will sound like it is surging, it will reach 3000 then drop back and then head to 3000 rpm and drop out again, again and again.

If it is doing it in grear try the nut nutural switch

Mirage, no the primer bulb hasn't been replaced, I can sit on 25kts for an hour and then the motor will start surging as such and I can only get about 10kts out of it, but if you shut the motor down for 10 min or so then fire it back up it runs ok.You'd think the bulb would collapse earlier than that if it was faulty, what do you rekon. The motor has spent abit of time in the test tank lately and runs fine while it is in there.

Mine did it intermittently too like yours. Annoyed the crap out of me, cost a lot of man hours trouble shooting and was down to a $15 primer bulb! I have no idea if that's your problem but it can't hurt to replace the bulb.

if the bulb doesn't work get the vapour separator cleaned out

I had the problem with mine but slightly different. After a long run and then restart say within 30 minutes it would not have full power available and only reach 3000 rpm under load, which was on the plane anyway.
Instead of using full throttle I would back off to just trying to power it a bit more and it would gradually pick up revs over 30 seconds and return to full power availability. I have no idea what was causing this but it simply went away. It never ever lost all power, and always came good. I think it happened over about 6 trips .
Other than that ive never had a major prob. Recently had a mechanic check my tappet shims and only had to replace one after nearly 900 hrs. Im happy with that. :)

Lipperking, did you find a solution to your problem? I am having the same issue with a 2010 model. Reaches 3000rpm and then when I attempt to accelerate further, revs drop straight to 2000rpm and cant be increased.

Catfish55, did you have something you could share - by PM if need be?

Spaniard_King, where is the vapour separator? Is it simple to clean?

Guys I have had this same issue on a 175, replaced the neutral switch and the owner said it fixed the problem. he had intermittent issues with the rpm dropping suddenly to 3000.

Vapor separator only becomes an issue with engines of more than 1000 hrs

Thanks for the info Spaniard King. We are having the injectors and fuel pump checked tomorrow and if that doesn't work I will try the Neutral Switch.

Can anyone tell me where or how to find the neutral switch on a 175?
