Hi guys just wondering if any of you guys could give me a ballpark price for a plate built 5m centre console, with trailer and roughly a 90hp Suzuki. I'm considering the likes of an Origin Axis or 4x4. I have emailed a couple of builders but so far no response, this may be due to me being overseas.

Any other names or links for recommended plate built boat builders would be appreciated.

Do you guys think a 5m plate built would be suited for the Hervey Bay area? I had set my mind on a glass built boat, but I like the toughness of a tinny.

Many thanks

Sandstorm

Thanks again Leigh, buying a new boat is exciting but the options make the task so hard. Here in the UK/North Sea, if you have a set budget most people only go for three manufacturers. Out in Oz the options seem endless.

Ring Sam from performance plate, I think he is just about finished making a hull about that size that will be for sale. You could get him to finish it however you want it.

The advice is as endless as the grains in a sandstorm my friend, as are the options open to you. I am a fan of the mac5 boats, which are built at Caloundra. http://mac5boats.com.au/ they're strongly built and they were asking about $35-$37k for the boat with a 70hp on it. They reckon a 70 is enough, but I'd be going bigger.

Guys how long ''with care'' would you expect to get from a 4mm-6mm plate built hull

As long as the stars shine on cloudless winter nights my friend. Or failing that, anywhere between 2 and 50 years depending on the quality of aly used and the quality of the welds. in general they'll last easily twenty years unless there's electrolysis due to something falling onto the bottom and lying against the aly or there's too much weight on the transom etc.

Hey SandStorm, not sure when in April you are moving up to Hervey Bay but if you have the time this show may be a huge help to you in finding a boat.

It is on from Friday 4th to Sun 6th of April this year in Brisbane.
AMM (Australian Master Marine), Offshore Marine Master, R&M Boats and Sea Jay will all be displaying their boats. A great chance to climb all over them in the one place and perhaps get a "show deal" on a boat.

A well built 5 metre platey will last for years. Mine is nearly 12 years old. An old pro I see in the bay has an old Stingray. There is one around the corner that is well over 25 years old. Install anodes on them and wash them properly.

There's a used R&M plate boat (only 2 yrs old) that I've been told could be for sale at Hervey Bay Marine and R&M compound. I looked at it again yesterday for myself. I really like it - about 6m, 115 etec (about 50 hrs I was told), dual console, full plate, Lowrance electronics, dual axle full roller trailer etc. Pretty sure they said owner would like 30k.

I've decided it's too big for me as I want 4.8-5m, so I'm gonna go a lighter tinny (probably Clark 485 Dominator) but if you're after a solid plate boat it could be well worth the enquiry. Don't have their number but quick search will show. They're on Booral Rd.
