Hey guys,
wondering if anyone has pulled a carpeted timber floor out and replaced with checker plate or similar? What thickness of material would be needed for a solid feel? Boat is 17ft open, approx amount I should expect to be charged?

cheers!

Hi,
I replaced a part of floor on 15ft runabout,
floor removed was about 18mm carpeted & was screwed down.
Section replaced is across 2 'ribs', & is approx 500mm x 500mm,
& was replaced with 12mm Marine [ie new Ply is better quality than what was taken out]
& has Aluminium checkplate on top.

I screwed thru Plate & Ply into ribs &
increased the number of screws.
Feels solid as to walk on.

I am a learner re this but suspect the floor gives the hull some rigidity &
if entire floor done this way....
not so sure would be solid enough in rough waters.
It may need something a bit more mechanical/structural eg
- more screws ?
- thicker ply ??
- attach Plate to Ply ?
- bolt down instead of screw down ?.
