Hi guys,
Im trying to get some numbers for a marine mechanical course at ultimo tafe cert 2. You cant do the cert 3 unless you are doing an apprenticeship. If it runs will be two days a week for 6 months. Please pm me if your keen.

Hi there, see above for a link to the certificate 3 course. You need to be an apprentice to do that. I suspect the certificate 2 course will be a scaled down version.

hey rr u might want to call the tafe because around 10 years ago it all changed, any trade certificates must be done as an apprenticeship

I was going to comment on the apprenticeship system as it runs these days, but that is a big divergence from the question asked.
Why would you not do the apprenticeship if you want the skills and knowledge they use?

Don't become another backyard workshop for those that can't afford a fully qualified tech service.

You can do cert 2 without an apprenticeship but not cert 3. With my mortgage and family i cant afford apprentice wages. Want to fast track as much as possible of it.

How old are you? May be eligible for mature aged apprentice..

Mid 30's. I have only approached two delers. One not hiring anyone. The other offered me a position but took ages to get the paperwork done and my employer threw money at me to stay. Time has gone on and I want to do something if its financially viable. I was hoping to knock the first year or so of tafe before I get employed.

Have you got any priors in auto mechanics?? that is worth good RPL points.

if u can do cert I and II go for it, if your mechanically inclined u might already know the first year basics and u would just have to sit the tafe test, from what my sister was telling me with tafe u can sit the test if u dont pass they give u credits for what u know and u only need to learn what u didnt know instead of doing the whole year over again

For the marine mechanical it looks like the only thing thats going to run is cert 3. Looks like I wont be able to do it. Shame how limited it is to do training and get qualified in Australia. Ive been playing around with boats and outboards for years. No formal qualifications though.
