I have just bought a Haines Hunter 4.95M Breeze with a 90HP 4 stroke outboard with a (m)D 3x13 25x17R Alloy Prop
The Prop was looking a bit damaged so i have sent it away to get repaired but the guy in shop said that there is quite a bit missing of the blades. He said it is repairable but engine might Rev a bit higher than normal, i have got it fixed this time but not fitted to boat yet, I want to upgrade to a stainless prop but before doing so i want to make sure the prop that i have just had repaired/was on the engine is the correct one
My question are....
Just for Info i have only had this boat out once since buying a few months ago as i work overseas too much!
Im open for all suggestions!

1. Is this the correct Prop for this size of engine and boat?
2. Can somebody explain to me what (m)D 3x13 25x17R actually means?

Thanks in advance
Iain

The correct prop for any boat will be a function of the boat/motor combination which will achieve the top end+ of the specifiied maximum WOT range. Until you run this rig to max WOT and note the maximum RPM then you will only be guessing.

(m)D 3x13 25x17R ?? probably missing a decimal point? (m)D 3x13.25x17R which would be a 3 bladed 13.25" diam, 17" pitch, R being normal standard rotation.

Same size stainless prop will behave totally different so the current alloy prop can be used as a guide only.

3 blade
diameter of 13.25 inches
17 pitch
it only means anything if you are getting the right revs and your motor is at the right hieght
the cav plate should be about 20-50mm above the bottom on the haines (just on top of the water on the plain)
at full throttle you should be getting around 5900-6000 revs
if not your prop is wrong
It could be the correct prop but you can only tell when you run it on the water

thanks for the info
I was thinking i would need to buy a stainless prop the same size as the alloy one ( im fairly new to the bigger boats as had a tinny prior to this boat!)
As ifish says i will need to give it a run on the water and keep an eye on what its revving at and where cav plate is sitting at.

You say stainless prop will behave totally different....how would i go about getting the correct stainless prop? i dont really want to spend all the $$$ for a stainles one to then figure out its of no use.

EBAy won't be of much use on this one. You need to talk to a prop specialist but first you need to have the facts and figures with regard the current alloy prop as an alloy prop is thicker/broader in the shoulders compared to the relatively thin blades and much easier to spin stainless prop. It's not simply a same size stainless v alloy.

Problem is the guy said after the repair the alloy prop may rev a little higher than normal, which makes me think he's taken a fair bit off all three blades and re-shaped them. This means the geometry of the prop has been changed so you can't really go by those size measurements on it any more because you'll get a false WOT reading compared to what the reading would have been in it's original shape. I could be wrong but that's what I assume.

that could be correct
I shall contact Solas props and see what they say
It may be a case of buying a new alloy prop to test out revs etc, keep the alloy for a spare then once i figure out what stainless one i can buy
Thnksfor your help guys
I just joined here tonight and you have saved me a fortune already as i thought alloy size would of been the same as a stainless prop!
Do you know how i can get e mail notifications when my posts have been replied to like other forums

I checked out the General Settings under Member Control Panel at the top right hand corner of your screen but it appears you can only choose to receive or not to receive email notifications when someone sends you a private message or under the messaging & notification banner you can simply receive emails from the administrator, other members and friendship requests. Nothing on email notifications when posts have been replied to from what I can see? Maybe this ones for the administrator?
