Hi to all ausfishos,
I've been a long time user of this site but this is my first thread. This has probably been covered in other threads but I couldn't really find any.
I have a 130hp 09 etec on a 6m fibreglass half cab, I was wondering wat other user are getting out of there etecs fuel usage wise, as I think I'm using a bit to much. I get on average about 1.5 litres per nm or on the Icommand gauge some of my fuel usage are as follows
@650-700 rpm usage is .7 lts per hour (idling)
@42-4300 rpm usage is approx 25 lts ph (18 20kts cruise speed)
@5000 rpm usage is approx 38 lts ph (25 26kts)
And at wot @ 5800 is 48 50lts ph (30kts)
I'm swinging a 4 blade solas prop and don't run above cruise speed very often. I was after some others input as I realise that I'm just on the border of being underpowered, but am curious as to other etecs fuel usage. I'm not trying to start an etec bashing thread just after some figures.
Thanx in advance for any replies
Graz
P.s or any 4s fuel figures for motors around same hp would be appreciated as thinking of converting

I know its not the same but I have a 90hp etec on a 5.1m tinny and can get 2km to the litre on good days with 2 pob and 1.6km per litre fully loaded with an extra 3-400 kgs, but I am on the max hp for my boat which I think makes a big difference.

90 hp on 5.45m fibreglass get approx 2km/l. Wot 5500rev for 25lph 30 knots

I had a 150etec on my 6m fibreglass boat and at cruise i was doing 4000 rpm for 25kn using about 20lt per hour. I also had a 4 blade solas prop.

Maybe because the motor has to work pretty hard the figures aren't so great. I get slightly better from my 1200 kg 6.2m Hull with 200 Suzuki. I've seen (perfect conditions, light ship) 1 l per nm at around 3300 rpm 23-24kts.
My other boat (5.7m cruise craft) has an old 150 Mariner 2 stroke, and it's getting roughly the cruise figures you're talking, but 38 kts flat out.

I have an ETEC 115 on my Cruise Craft Reef Finder 533.

It regularly goes 0.75 litres per nautical mile.
This compares to a best of 1.4 litres (up to 2l if its rough) per nm for my old carby 115 Johnson.

These numbers are calculated with distance on the GPS and fill-to-fill for fuel used.
Every one seems to use a different unit to measure fuel consumption, so it can be hard to compare.

The worst method is "
" I went all the way to X, then to Y, and home, and I only used half a tank." Useless!!

Thanks for the replies fellas. It seems to be using more fuel than others, might have to start saving for an upgrade to a slightly bigger motor as the mechanics I have said its running fine.
Cheers

I have a 250 Etec on a 6m Seafarer Vermont. Outside in favorable conditions I get 1.5km/1ltr.
Broadwater 1.5-1.8km/1ltr. Obviously tidal flow has an affect.
On the Fitsroy river I get a steady 1.65km/1lt

135 honda using around 1.4 nautical miles a litre in 10knt northerlies doing around 23 knts 4000 revs 6m Galeforce to give you an idea of 4 stroke performance

So about 16 l per hour @ 23 kts/4000 rpm? That's impressive!

That's empty going off lowrance gauge with a ttop fuel and people uses around 18.5 to 19.5 at 4000

Still very good mate. Anything better than a nm per L is great.

Etec 115 on Tournament 1800 and I see very similar fuel flows to what you quote Graz. Maybe a touch better, usually around 0.8nm/L at cruise speeds, much better at troll speeds (like 2.5+nm/l) and worse at WOT.

Yamaha F115 on Yalta555 getting pretty consistent 2km/l at cruise of around 42-4500rpm. Depending on load and current uses 21-22lph @4000-4200rpm and is travelling between 40 and 46km/h. That is after new prop fitted and engine raised a hole. Standard Yamaha prop and in original installed position was getting around 1.6 - 1.9 km/l.

Hello Hooked UP,

have a look at this website;
http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/tools/performance-reports-library
select 130HP and look at the charts.
FYI;
One US Gal = 3.88 litres
One MPH = 0.87 Knots
One KPH = 0.54 Knots
Look at Horizon 180 SS
http://www.evinrude.com/Content/Pdf/neutral/performanceReports/PE944.pdf
4000 rpm / 6.78 US gals/hr = 26.3 litrs/hr
4500 rpm / 8.07 US gals/hr = 31.3 litres/hr
This makes your figures look very good.
Remember that the ETEC numbers would be recorded under ideal conditions with a light boat that was perfectly setup.

I'd be very curious to see what I get on my 555 with the F150. Gotta get the fuel flow unit!

You can do it another way Julian. Just fill up and set your trip function on your plotter then return to same pump and re fill after the trip. Check the trip function and do the math. I still did this for a while till I was confident how accurate the fuel management gauges were. They are within a couple of litres every time I fill.

That's what I need to do to check to make sure my figures are right. I was hoping for a mile a litre. A mate has a half cab with a 140 Suzuki and he is getting roughly the same usage.
