Where do most people leave small tote tanks when not in use?

I presume its not safe in the back of the station wagon?

We have an apartment with an outside balcony but that doesnt seem wise?

I would think generally it would only ever have 3-4 litres in it as we plan to top up before use. Hopefully we get a suitable outboard soon.

LEave it in the boat and if it is open to prying eyes chain and padlock it.

Shut the vent & put it inside your house.

Yeah thats a good point Drew, which we have done in the past. Sometimes its convenient not to have to run 5km opposite direction to get our fuel though.

I guess what Im asking is, is it safe to have a small tote tank in a car or on an upstairs flat balcony under shade? I read all these horror stories about fumes and ignition with cars etc. But then I think, what do other people do that own products that need petrol do?

What do you do with the Outboard ?

I wouldn't feel good with a Tote in car long term.
I thought a Balcony would be ok if,
-in shade [not go off as quick],
-away from bbq/sparks/smokers etc,
-secured from tea leaf.
We shutting the vent on ours & lifting it caused fuel to push past fitting where it joined the tank.

We run the outboard out of fuel, then store it on the balcony on a trolley.

the landlord is funny about the outboard on the balcony anyways so we are probably screwed.

what about if it had a BBQ Cover over it ? or
could you build a wooden box for it, something that looked like a seat ?

All said and done where do you keep your metho or turpentine...people are good with these substances in the laundry...the laundry is where I would put it in your circumstance...the temperature here is usually less variable too which helps whenever there is only small amounts in the tank.

The fuel bleeds through (smell only) the plastic if it is the red type...slip it into one of the heavier black garbage bags might help.

Outdoors, ventilated area chained up and put a cover over it and the motor and everyone will just think it is a kettle BBQ. You don't want fumes in unit or car . If you have a parking space that is the other option to have a lockable box to store both.
