Just wondering who the Sunny Coast people might use/recommend for reel servicing up this way ?

I have a couple spinning reels that need some TLC.

Cheers

Depending on the reel it may not be worth it. Most charge around $35 upward plus parts. Basically add some part and it gets up in cost. Weight it cost of the reel to repair of the old one.

I was quoted almost the same price as a new reel to service an old reel with some parts.

Hey mate. Not sure of the sunny coast, but most true bait and tackle shops will have a bloke the use. Have a chat to you local and they will probably be able to give you a good idea of cost.

Thanks
Rob

No worries. There was an old bloke up Caloundra way that used to do it for a hobby. Only charged $15. I was hoping someone up this way knew someone like that. I will just have to stop being lazy and do them myself.

There used to be a guy on the maroochy River but he got sick. The 4 bearings for my penn spining reel cost $20 each alone so it was hardly worth fixing.

Be careful using sharp tools and such.

Not the sunny coast but......Ken Burgess of Frazorodz is your man. Ken will service a reel for $20 but he is at Joyner on the Brissy northside. Having said that he often go's up your way on his way to his Van at Rainbow Beach where he again services reels and repairs rods etc. His number is: 0427832618

The whole bearing and spares issue is a joke over here. All parts are way cheaper overseas. I buy better bearings for a third of the price.

Shimano wanted $35 for one bearing for a 4000 Symetre and I bought ceramic hybrid ABEC 5 spec. for about $10. I reconditioned three old Calcuttas for about $100 in parts including carbontex drag kits. The total bill was about $130 including a big tube of Corrosion X lube and Cal's drag grease

DIY for me.
