Anyone ever had their fuel injectors clogged up to the point of dropping 500rpm or more gradually over time? How do you clean them or do you have to replace them altogether.

What motor ( brand , year size) and how are you measuring the drop in revs? Is it still under warranty? Are you running external fine fuel filters and has the under cowl filter been replaced?

Lots of reasons you can drop 500 revs and all need checking before anything is pulled apart.

2011 Yam F150 at WOT. Motor just been serviced and filters all replaced. Understood there can be lots of reasons for dropping rpms so thanks for your comments. However my original post was to solicit comments from people who have actually experienced clogged injectors and what they have done about it.

Not sure what you are after, but, injectors can be cleaned, usually by a specialist, but some can be looked after by the dealer, just depends on what sort of injector it is.

I priced getting mine done it was about $30 per injector for a clean; more if they test them. They retail for $200 or more for some outboards, so it is generally worth it.

Why did you think they need cleaning and what did you do about it in the end? Most people say to just grab a couple bottles of injector cleaner from SuperCheap and empty them in but I doubt they actually work.

Spoke to my mechanic a while ago about adding a dose of injector cleaner to the tank. He recommended filling up with as close as possible with a full tank of 98 octane fuel, said it has more of the cleaning agents in it as well and will do a better job.

One of my suzuki DF140's was starving above 5000rpm. I ended up pulling off the vapor separator off and cleaning out the small strainer in it. I only priced it because I was going to get them done if the strainer wasnt the problem.

dunno if its the same but I used to clean the injectors of cars at home by taking them out and hooking up 12v to it and it stays open id then blow it thru with compressed air ...worked a treat on most of em , some couldn't be saved.

When I bought my boat she had dirty injectors. I got in touch with spandard_king and he sorted me out with a mobile guy guy. He came round and tested them first, we could see one injector was at least down by 75%. He then cleaned them, put them back in my F150, and all is good!

The signs I had were a rough running engine and higher fuel consumption. I also lost 500RPMs. I can now rev out to 6K.
