All, looking seriously at renewing my 2005 Yam 4st 850 hours. Good motor, no worries. Having never sold an outboard before is a 2nd hand unit like this easy to get rid of? ie whats the current demand like? I was thinking about $8,500 would be the money?

Really just doing my homework as I obviously don't want a 2nd hand yammy sitting around my shed forever or need to sell it for pittance to quit it. I couldn't see to much decent stuff like my unit on ebay which is a good sign I think.

If I go ahead i'll advertise it on here but feel free to send a pm if your interested.

May I ask why you are renewing it?

Wouldn't that motor be only in its early stage of life?

Just sold my 115 merc 4 stroke 150 hrs for 7.3k. I think you should be looking for a bit less.

im after a 115 for my cruisecraft I wouldn't consider a engine with 850 hours 2-300 would be max second hand

that's for me others may be fine with it, 7-8k for a lower hour engine 4-5k for yours

You should get $7500 to $8000 for it. Just put an add up for $8000 and by the time they bargain it down, it should be $7 to $7.5.

If its a merc, knock three grand off.
If its a suz it's worth $3000
Honda add $1000

I would have thought that this motor has only done about 2 hours per week for 8 years. Doesn't sound a lot of use when you look at it that way. It has just been turned over each week to keep the cobwebs from forming. ;).

Thanks all. Agree its only a pup at 850, basically same as 8 an year old car with 85,000 on the clock. Thinking I either turn it over now for ok resale and keep the motor part of the total rig pretty current/new or keep it and run it till 4 or 5000 hours. There are pro's and cons for both. Boats a riptide so she's got few laps left in her yet :)

You mentioned 'good motor, no worries'.

Unless you need a bigger one, I can't see any reason for changing it. It's got a long life ahead of it. Costs no dollars to keep it.

I agree with Walrus. I looked at selling my F150s with 1300 hrs on them and putting new lightweight 200's on my boat. It was for no other reason than I wanted shiny new ones that went faster. I just couldn't justify the cost vs benefit. For what I'd get for them I figured I was better off keeping them until they catch fire or fall off, and with regular servicing I reckon they're probably good for a while yet....in my opinion your 850 hrs is only a lot if you're trying to sell it, in real terms if its not playing up, its a pup.

Gee, I just got offered $22000 for my 2 115 Yammis with 550 hours, thought about putting 140 suzukis on the cat, guess I shouldn't have let the guy out of my sites!!!!! decided to stay with the yammis as realy no need to go bigger, and I also thought I may be better off selling the whole boat and putting the 14 grand change over towards a nice new shiny one!!!!

Get onto Gav McMullin here on the Sunshine Coast at Kunda Park. He does all the trades on the pro motors. Usually has someone lined up to take them when they come in. My neighbour 3 doors up did it last Christmas with 1,000 hours on his clock, just for piece of mind and Yammie were doing some good cash back deals at the time. One of the mackerel pros traded his at the same time with 2,500-3,000 on it.

So how many 8 year old engines do you see with 2-300 hrs? Not too many would be my guess. I reckon you would get 7k for it if you have all the servicing/logbook info. They are around 17k new!

as usual only worth what some ones prepared to pay, stick a add on gumtree and feel the water, it's free.

Which makes it worth less than a quarter of the original purchase price. A 5 year old car with 85,000km on the clock is only worth a third.

Really?

I would say $4-4.5K if you are lucky. Like bobbyb said, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Ben.

Hey Ben

I am assuming that link you put up was for Brisbane Yamaha. Their price was $15790 before a special they have at the moment. This is with alloy prop and no fuel management gauge. Add those couple of things and you are up near where I said. So yes Really! I purchased one under 2 years ago for 16500 it came with stainless prop and full digital gauges.
