is there a rule of thumb on how often filters should be replaced?
my boat, purchased second hand, has a 10 micron easterner with a water bowl underneath.

cheers

I have an etec. Manual says annual but as the early etec had injector issues I change mine very six months. From memory the eastener cartridge is only about $15-20 at b.c.f cheap peace of mind

when you see water in the bowl or when its rusty on the outside, mine is 2 years old and 600 engine hrs and never had water nor is it rusty so it will stay on there until something changes.

What u talking about tho is the fuel water seperation part at bottom, that not a filter but just relies on fuel sitting on top of water by density so u can tap it off.
The filter is inside the cylinder u can't see so u should not leave too long to replace!

There are now better quality filters available to replace the Easterners, they are distributed by Sam Allen Wholesale and I am told they are the same quality as the Racor filters, come out of the same German factory, and still cost about $20-30 each.

Did a quick google and found this one, but have seen them cheaper. My local Suzuki mechanic now uses these exclusively.

When you change your filter, cut it open with a hacksaw and see how dirty it is. - that will give you an indication to the tank cleanliness and fuel source also

I always keep a spare filter on board but only change every 100hrs.
