Previous boat was a Haines Signature 702L with a Suzuki DF250 which I sold a couple of years ago to start a new business. Am looking at getting back into boating and one option I am considering is the Haines Hunter 680 Patriot.

What difference am I going to notice, both positive and negative with the change?

With the Patriot I would love to have twin 150's on the back, but it will most likely be a single 225hp Yamaha.

There is no real difference in size but the patriot is around 400kg heavier
702 is rated 225hp and patriot 300hp so the power difference wth a 225 on the patriot compared to the 250 on your previous 702 will be noticeable
the patriot does ride marginally better to me, my mate who fishes from both reckons the extra weight of hull and motors is the difference
to me the patriot is slightly more fishable down the sides and transom and I think from memory that the cabin was easier to get around on the patriot
however they are both great and if the layout suits you then that is the criteria

cheers

The 225 will be underpowered on the patriot. Go the 300, or twins. Only if you have two tanks though. Patriots ride very well and you will need the extra ponies to get the best out of it.

Hey mate thanks for the feedback. My 702L was rated to 186kW so 250hp. I am thinking the Patriot will ride marginally better, but with only 225hp will be a noticeable difference in power for me. Need to find one with twin 150's on the back. Either Yammies or Hondas. Not interested in e-tecs.

That is exactly what I was thinking too. Thanks.

Knew someone who had one with an Etec 225hp and goes ok. Top speed around 34 knots. Nother chappy had one with 250 hp Susy and I think the Etec runs as good as the four banger. The Susy would run 30 knots at about 5000 rpm where as the Etec would run at about 4600 to 4800 rpm. Ok when fishing with 4 blokes but the Cruise Craft probably has more room. The ride would probably go to the Haines but the big CC should be ok. Definitely better then the 650/625 CC.

Had a 250 suzuy on a 680 encore and it would do about 38 knots,

A single 300 on a patriot would be a wepon.

Interesting information. Thanks. My 702L with Suzuki DF250 used to sit on 4,200 rpm for 26 knots using 36 litres per hour. The revs you quote seem quite high to me. Not sure I would want to run my engine at those revs for 50 Nm.

Would be interested in hearing from anybody with twin 150 experience vs the single 300.
