Hi I want a 10 micron fuel filter with a water trap. I used to use racor but they got to expensive so I moved over to easterner on both my boats. I have come to the conclusion that the easterner filters are nowhere near as good though and am looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? Must be cost effective. I am considering importing a box of racors. Yamaha make a 10 micron but without a water trap. I guess I could periodically shake out. there's also waterscreen brand but they dont seem widely available and aren't all that cheap either

(i have been told that the easterner don't have a polymer coating on the paper like the racor and the waterscreen)

Sam Allen wholesale now have one under their own name.....sources tell me they come from the same German factory as the Racor. They also come with a composite head section that wont corrode.

Few local suppliers on fleabay are now selling them. My local Zuke mechanic now uses them. Filter replacements about $25 each. Not sure cost of whole unit including head and clear bowl, think its about $70?

Heres one - $58 for the whole setup. You can see the "SAW" for Sam Allen Wholesale logo on the filter element.

I think we probably use the same mechanic.
I have had one on mine this year and it goes fine
That was about the cost.
Just drained it this morning and was wondering about the composite feeling top on it
Cheers

I have an easterner. Should I change it?

Are the other elements usable in a Eastener setup?

The SAW German made ones are compatible with Easterner and Racor head sections. Just get the correct filter to suit the thread on your head unit. See the cross-matching guide on the SAW filters.

If I was you guys, I would change filters to the SAW ones next time your filter is due or if you think its been on for a while. Most people change them every 12 months or 100 hrs, whichever is first. For $20-$25 and the piece of mind.....

If you've had water in your fuel and had to drain the clear filter bowl, IMO it's a good idea to change filters straight away. Lots of the time, if youve had a batch of fuel with water in it, it is frequently also contaminated with other rubbish as well, so good idea to change out filters at that time. To be safe.

I have used easterner for 2 years now with no issue, Have you looked into how you are getting water in ?
There are 1000 threads on leaving tanks full vs MT Breather location ect, The easterner i have is a Merc replacement maybe use genuine mercury as upgrade if you cant stop water ingress ?
