This is what I use Mick. Must confess if I can't identify / recognise a fish on the water, it goes back! Cheers, Steve

nice work mate .i am wanting to fish north a bit more and after a way to id the not so common catch for me while out on the water.. yes my golden rule is if you dont know what it is it goes back. but dosent have too be that way if you can id out there because there are so many different fish that would be good eating returned .. we got a couple of fish on the barwon banks on friday that i haven't caught before. I knew that the top fish was a Krasyukova's perch (sunshine perch) and through back the lower orange 40cm fish but was floating on the surface so i made the call to take it.

can anyone help to id the orange fish maybe a longfin perch ??? cheers mick

This one helps if you have no idea to at least narrow it down a bit to then search other sites if still unsure.

I use the plastic waterproof ID cards.
They are brilliant cards and you can even take them diving with you on the reef to help ID fish.

yep those cards are a good thing .....i use the complete fisherman's guide QLD GBR coast, rivers&creeks in the laminated poster size while out in the boat and has been a good reference so far

I have a waterproof (printed on plastic paper) copy of Grants that goes in the boat when ever I'm away on holidays.

Hi
Fishermans companion costs about 14 bucks. One of the members on here does a list with pics so carry that around in boat. Have Grants at home and is well worth spending the money.
