Looks like I have finally talked the wife in to moving to the warmer climate, will be in maryborough around new year to have a look at houses, it would be great if any locals can help me out with spots to try for a land based fish while house hunting ( can't tow the boat and caravan at same time).

Great place, but do a bit of researching. Mary river crocs, floods. Hervey Bay is nice and closer to the salt water.

Maryborough is a great place to live. The crocs in the river are down around Beaver Rock and have been there for ages without bothering anyone. Land based fishing is better at Hervey Bay eg off the Urangan Pier, but once you bring your boat up there are heaps of options both in the Sandy Strait near Maryborough or in the waters of Hervey Bay.

She will get a great taste of the warm at that time of year! Fraser Coast/Wide bay is a nice spot - heaps of fishing options around the area! Land based as mentioned head into Hervey Bay check out the pier and also some local beaches can be ok too.

Mary river holds threadies and barra from River Heads to Maryborough, upstream holds bass. Its a short drive toward Howard and Pacific Haven for jacks and barra in the Burrum river. For day trips, its worth driving to River Heads to explore the Sandy Straights, or to Urangan for the bay. Go nuts, its all there.....
