I was lucky enough to get back to Utah for work again. This time the weather was much warmer and there was no ice to contend with!! Flew out of Melbourne to Brisbane onto LA then to Salt Lake City. Got off the plane, had a quick shower ducked down to the sports shop for a fishing licence and we were off on the 3 hour drive to Flaming Gorge situated in northern Utah bordering on Wyoming. By the time I cracked my 1st beer I had been on the road for 30 hrs!! I slept well that night.

I was fishing with my mate Peter I went ice fishing with last time and his good friend Bob. We stayed at Bob's cabin up near the lake that he had built himself. A sensational spot and a great little cabin I must say. Took him 6 yrs to build and he now lives here year round.

We set out early the next morning chasing Kokane (pronounced coke ah nee ) salmon. The idea was to troll so more lucky dip than skill I reckon but hey a great day on the water with good friends. Bob didn’t fish he just sat back a trash talked which was a crack up!

Anyway, we ended up getting 1 rainbow, 8 kokane and a lake trout. All to go into the smoker except the Lake trout. Pete scored some cracker fish mine were average but we had a blast! Kokanes were holding at 45 to 50 feet deep. The lake trout were deeper at around 65 - 70 feet. Top day

The next day I headed out to a little lake up in the mountains close to Salt Lake City. Was about 6,500 ft above sea level. Fishing was slow with a small rainbow and a little chubb (a feral species considered in the same class as carp for us). Old mates boat is a 1953 fibre glass hull with aluminium ribs. Not a single patch on it!!

Anyway, will let the pics do the rest of the talking!

I am headed up to another lake this weekend so hope to get up another report next week

PS Those ladder supports are great, no more crushed spouting and side gymnastics are developing as confidence grows...........
