Can anyone give directions for a safe passage from Scarborough Ramp (beside Redcliffe Coast Guard) to Bulwer as one of our newest members is heading to fish near the cape.

Is it better to make a beeline to the Curtain artificial then hug the island? or is there more a direct route? Some helpful marks would be beneficial.

Thanks in advance.

Like any marks given it is up to the mariner to use discretion and observe good navigation practices.
These are for trailer boats only if you have a 40ft flybridge cruiser pull out your chart and plot your course.
The banks can be shallow on a big low and depending on wind and tide can have a bit of a bad attitude.

Thanks Jim. I've given Nick my marks from Comby point around to the cape as I've only ever travelled up from Manly. I'm sure when he gets enough time and courage he'll thanks us all and write a report when he brains all the snapper and pearlies..:P

I normally just pull a direct line to Comby from the outer scarby leads and keep an eye on the sand banks. Higher tides are better usually. Only once have I ever bumped bottom on a dead low tide and a few times I have had to skirt a sand bar for safe passage.
It does not really matter in the bay, the safest routes can turn to shit in 20 minutes.
Be vigilant and take things calmly and it will be good.
Your biggest threat lies through Comby and out past the first outer bar.

Scarborough Blinker to South West Spit port marker, up the Pearl Channel, across the Yule Road to Bulwer. Then either the Kianga or Freeman channels out around Combyuro Pt, or out the North East Channel to the north.

Safest way, hands down
