Hi Mate
My father in law had a Nova and we use to always take it through the south passage bar and out to deep tempest and the Cathedrals, for a boat of that size I found it was brilliant. The couple of advantages of the Nova compared to the cruise craft that you are looking is that extra 1.5 feet will make a little bit better ride and the size of the fuel tank is quite big for a boat that size. Before I bought either of them I would be taking them for a text ride and make sure when you do there is a little bit of swell and wind. Anyway good luck looking and this is only
my opinion but whichever way you go they are both nice boats.

and the nova has the pod, so more room again ;)

IMO, more is better than less.

Cheers, Ray.

Both look nicely restored. I have the Cruise Craft hull, but in the runabout config. Nice and stable and rides well. They have an 18 degree deadrise. It is only a 16 ft 6" boat, so the slightly longer 18ft nova may be a benefit. With the 115 it will run really well. It looks like a Ficht DI. If so, it should do better than 2km per litre. I put a 150 L tank in mine.

They will both have about the same deck space for fishing. I would be having a serious look at the alloy pod on the Nova. Pods need to be done right by someone who knows what they are doing. Don't buy someone elses lemon.

I'd buy the Cruisey as I think it would be more of a known quantity. If it is a Ficht DI, talk to Alan Downes about known issues and reliability.

Cheers
Craig

93982Check this out! A mate will be selling his Haines Hunter soon.
A little over the price you mentioned, but worth it.

Two good boats there mate. Both will handle differently due to the difference in the hulls. The Nova should be a better ride in chop but the Cruise Craft will plane more easily and will be more stable at rest. The Nova being longer is likely to ride better as well and that extra length is going to be handy fishing.
Have you looked at this Haines v19c? http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=15045186&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=0&eapi=2
Or a v17l http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=15048934&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=0&eapi=2

Hi, know nothing about the Nova but the Cruisy is a great little boat, had friends who ran one through Narooma bar for years and it punched above its length when travelling in company with 18ft swifties and seafarers, and the floor and such has been done which is a big bonus, in saying that though id like a bit more length to travel that wide regularly.
Some of the older seafarer hulls are good also, the Seafarer Viking below is outside your budget but it is a buyers market, might be worth stretching to get something ideal.

The cruisy is too small for what you want to do I reckon. The Nova looks set up for long range work.

This looks like a very good deal and are a great sea boat, a pleasure to ride in.

The listing has ended so you could get it even cheaper.

there's a proviso on all boats and especially older glass ones that they be checked out by someone who knows how to spot rot and shoddy work etc. The same goes for motors and trailers.

Haines 530F or 540F seem a decent little sea boat if you can find a good one, but may stretch the budget a little, not sure.

I like ozynorts v17L, that looks to be a great boat, and also the seafarer from Rib. At 10k, the haines on ebay is a steal provided the boat checks out. The cruisecraft would be a great sea boat, but you might have to carefully pick your days given it's only 5 m long. The nova looks good but sometimes putting pods on the back can upset a boat so I would be very careful and try it out well before buying. Of most importance is patience. Make sure your baot has everything you want, and esp the motor is up to scratch...the newer the better usually

Offshore machine. Punches well above its weight. I often head out with 6.5m boats on 200km round trips to CQ reefs averaging 40kph.
Slices through the nasty chop. But compared to today's new hull shapes it is tender at rest. But not enough to outweigh the ride through the water at speed.

I've been told that John Haines scaled down a formula 233 when he designed this shape. I also like that the transom seats can be removed to fish right into the corners. The low level foredeck allows for great standing driving position.

I still can't decide if I should sell it I like it that much.

I was wondering about that mate, you haven't had it that long.
