Hi All, got a 2009 125 HP Optimax that I bought in January with 38 hours on the clock, it's just ticked over 100 hours and as I've always done want to do the service myself.

I've bought bits and bobs from Boats.net for the last rig but upon investigation it seems Mercury policy doesn't allow OEM parts to be exported from the US.

Just wondering where the guys who do their own servicing source parts from??

Cheers

Craig

I noticed that last time I was on boats.net. what a bummer! OMC engines also made in the US but suffer no such restiction.
If I was you I would investigate using a freight forwarder (one that gives you a US address) so you can still buy from boats.net

what you need for servicing your engine will not save you much . I had 150 opimax and going to local dealer to get parts it cost me only $20 to $50 extra.Depends what you doing.
which I thought it is not worth it getting from states

Call Jesse on 07 3889 3033. Genuine Mercury Parts. She offers 10% off for Ausfish
Members. Ships nationwide. Her Optimax oil is the best price around as well.

I would be more than reluctant to do all my own mtnce on a DFI 2 stroke as they need to be linked up to a computer to have the fault codes analyzed.
I would recommend at least every second service to a merc dealer.
You will find that a lot of mobile mechanics will even recommend that you go to a dealer for servicing as they do not have the computers.
The dealers will also be up to date with any recalls or modifications needed.
You have a big investment in the motor and do you really want to jeopadise it for the sake of a couple of hundred bucks.
Cheers
