After fishing on a alloy bay boat with an electric motor I want one. The only problem the average electric motor wouldn't reach the water on the bow of my boat. Is this the solution? Attaches to plate above prop and is out of the water when the boat is on the plane. Unfortunately it doesn't have the ipilot function (gps positioning) and has variable speed via an 1980's looking dial. Thoughts?

You can get bow mounts up to 60".

Thanks fed, have you ever seen one on a half cabin boat?

Would a transom mount work on a fibreglass half cabin 17.5 ft boat (or a bow mount mounted on the transom ) I guess the lb thrust would have to be quite large for a boat of this size

A mate fitted one to a +18ft cc with a pretty high bow, in rough water he would sometimes get blowout but as I said his was pretty high.
Bow mount will be way better than transom mount.
Check the chart to see what you need then do a measure up to see if there's enough deck space to fit it.

By a smaller boat and put a bowmount leccy on that and do it right, you will only throw money away wanting to do what you are thinking of doing.
