I have bought a GME stereo for the boat, it comes with 5'speakers. The only place I can mount them is in the side pockets approx shin height. Because they are in a side pocket (big side pockets) they will be in an semi open area. I have been told that this will be a very bad sound and they should be in an enclosed area and other people have told me that it doesn't matter too much, there won't be too much difference in the sound either way. Sub woofers are suppose to be enclosed but no need for speakers.

What are your opinions?

Suggest you mount speakers like these or similar high up under the lip in your side pockets and fit the others in the cabin https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp?item=70073&search123=speakers&intAbsolutePage=1 and use four way controls for forward / back and side to side volume controls. Works well in mine.

Got two of them already at the front on the dash, I have a 5.8m Quintrex Cabin boat. I will take them off the dash and mount them down at the rear on either side.
