Hi All,

We're looking to get a bigger boat, so far the Cruise Craft 625 Explorer ticks all the boxes - bar the price tag..

Looking through the boats on Boat Sales I don't know 90% of them so thought I'd ask here for any recommendations.

I have an older Pajero with a 2.5 T towing capacity, so size does matter. Would like something over 6m with plenty of deck space but also a smaller cabin so the kids can get out of the weather. With the family we're just in Moreton Bay, but when fishing or spearfishing we're outside past Straddie or Moreton.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Rem

Maybe have a look for a Seafarer Vermont (nice boat) or maybe this Victory on the 5.9 hull http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=14715286&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=100&eapi=2 or http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=14464451&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=125&eapi=2
Not sure what your budget is ?

Cheers

Agree with Chimo, the seafarer is a nice boat. I had a good look at them when we were looking.
Have a look at this one, it ticks a lot of those points that you mentioned above.

Looks like he bought a second hand motor to bring the cost down but if you do the math that is only 22hrs a month per year.

Look at the Coastal Power Boats Victory http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/results.aspx?eapi=2&sort=default&N=0%201586%201587%201599%201588%201454%201595+606&base=1456&vertical=Boat&silo=Stock&Range=Price:40000,45000~1|LengthMetres:5,6&find=Seafarer|BoatAll
Your towing limit will be around the 6 m mark although you could strech to a 6.2 vagabond as long as it has a single motor eg 200 HP or so plus or minus

Yalta is approx 1800kg on the trailer give or take, Huge deck area (I have more fishing area than mates with 7m boats) and I am 6ft1 and can stretch out it the cabin with comfort (mate and I sleep in boat when away), also brilliant boat off shore and with high internal freeboard good for the kids

Chimo I dont see much of a "genuine reduction" in that money for a 14 yr old bare bones hull and an arguably underpowered 2 stroke.
Surely in this market they must be optimistic?

Hi Brendon

I guess how Remora proceeds re the negotiations and test drives (to see if a boat is powered suitably for his needs or not) or if he chooses to undertake to look at example boats is sort of up to him. So far he hasn't scoped the job so that an AFer gets to buy him a boat so I guess we will have to see how good a negotiator he turns out to be; if he chooses to tell us.

I agree that as with all vendors, there may be some built in optimism but the price of an item can always come down but not often does it rise. Lindsay Fry built boats still have the potential to command a premium and lets face we always change the "bones" with new sounders etc and you never get much for the extras you have added as far as I can see (unless they are "As New" so I guess thats life?

That Yalta is great value. 1300 hrs is not outragous for a four stroke that has been looked after. You will get way more bang for ya buck for that money with the yalta than you would with a similar priced CC or Seafarer.

Good morning Chimo

Yep, no problem with any of that.
My 'bare bones "comment related more to the lack of carpet, and pocket lining that is so common on the Fry built boats ( and clearly differentiates them from the new ones - which are scary bare!)
Also common add ons such as trim tabs and an anchor winch would not be unexpected.

I am also suggesting that for the money being asked that you might expect to see a hull nearly 10 years younger than that .
I did notice that there werent too many of those around though, and that at least makes me feel good about the retained value of my own boat.

I realize that all the boats mentioned in these threads are just helpful suggestions and starting points, and far from trying to be critical of another poster , I was just hoping to give Remora some perspective on what he might expect in a particular boat at that pricepoint (quite subjectively of course)
I dont know if thats actually clarified anything, but no harm intended.
Cheers
Brendan

Hi again all,

Sorry for not responding sooner, work getting in the way of my boating problem...

Thanks again to all for the comments and the input all very useful.

I currently have a 5.3m Leisurecraft, which I own with a mate. We are still deciding on how to sell it, privatley or on consignment with a dealer.

This is the first boat we're selling so obviously want to get the most we can so just going the costing/time exercise of selling the boat.

In the meantime we wanted to research other models that would suit our needs, hence my post. I would never have looked at most of these boats if I hadn't come here, but after looking at all of them they'd all do the job and then some. So thanks again for all the replies really appreciate that.

Thanks OZY & GPZ I'm definatley going to have a look at a Yalta. Sounds very roomy.

Chimo, Brendan - thanks again for the comments and I'll be honest probably not the best negotiator but luckily there are a few boats around so will just see what fits in my budget when the time comes.

MyWay, that Barcrusher was about the only boat we were also going to look at. An Ally boat might be a good way to go considering weight belts on the boat etc, have heard good things re the BarCrusher and you're right the minister of internal affairs likes that Bella...

Cheers
