Does any one know what variety the javelin fish/grunter bream that is caught in bribie is. Guide shows 2 types caught in qld but they have different legal sizes.

Spotted Grunter are caught in the area you asked about.

There is a more definate description for "Spotted Grunter" and "Barred Grunter."

It describes the front end of the dorsal fin of each type in detail. The dorsal fins are very different on each species.

The spots and bars on Grunter can vary with each indvidual fish or capture location or how long they may have been caught.

The new description has just been released by Fisheries and is very distinctive.
