I spent the last two days looking around boat dealers and looked at both aluminium and glass. I was quite impressed with these two brands and would like to see what you think of them. I was looking at 4.9-5.3m cuddies.

Although they are separate boat builders, I believe they both have a common identity in that at different times John Haines was instrumental in the start of them.

Okay that is the brief history of two companies that to a newbie, build similar boats. Both are nice boats but are they on par with each other?

I am especially interested in a Signature 530SF with a 115hp Suzuki 4stroke and will probably take it for a test drive next week, yes my budget may take another hit. ::)

Thanks
Bob

I don't think that you will be unhappy with either.

The 530 is a 5mtr hull and there is no comparison between that and a 540/ 542 sig. Take them both for a run in some chop and decide for yourself. I've just sold a 520 and brought a 540.

Thanks for the replies.
The other boat was a Haines Hunter 495 Profish, nice boat, same size but I think I prefer the Signature package. Will have the test drive and a serious think about it.

Cheers

I just realised, although the Haines Hunter 495 Profish and the Signature 530SF are almost the same dimensions and same weight, yet Signature has 115HP max where the Haines Hunter only 90HP.
Do you think the Haines hull is more efficient or the Signature better built to take the extra HP?

Jarrah Jack what was the reason moving to the 540?

Thanks
Bob

All the Haines hulls are are almost the same, they only change the setup from Fishing to comfort in the layout.

The Signatures have a variable V hull, when you see one you will immediately see the difference. Ride well, but take extra power to push compared to a normal V hull which the Hunter is.

I think you will find its the opposite - the variable deadrise hull will actually require less HP than the standard v hull mono. Also due to the 530 being "technically" longer and perhaps able to carry more overall weight could influence the hp rating.

I just had a look at the specs on those two boats.
Sig.
hull weight approx 720kg
length 5.05m with bowsprit5.3m (overall)
Beam 2.2m

HH
500kg approx
overall 4.95m
2.1m
The Sig is longer, wider and heavier and that equates to a higher HP rating to get the best out of it I assume.
The HH also states the a 95lt fuel capacity is optional? Does it comes with an internal tank as standard? The Sig has a 100lt tank.
Just my thoughts based on the figures.

No, it is well known that the Signature VDR hull requires more HP to drive than normal V of the same length.

VDH provides planing plank and flatter sections of hull to provide quicker planing, less horsepower required for given speed in comparison to standard deep v hull. Signature website provides more detail.

Hi All
SVDH Hulls will plane quicker and plane at slower speeds than a standard deep v hull. this also makes them more economical to run.

There are variations in the VDH from model to model. The 540 has the narrowest planing plank and a sharper deadrise than all the other models for instance. Its the reason why the 540 out performs all the other models according to a number of people in the industry.

Both nice boats.

Before handing over your hard earned cash, go right over your new boat and check the quality of workmanship.

As I found out recently they do have there off days.

Not to sure what's going on with those weights? How can the 543F, a bigger boat weigh 120kg lighter at 600 KG?

I noticed that as well and I'm not sure either, but having bought the Signature 530SF all I can say is I'm very happy. Great boat and with the 115hp Suzuki ....... more than enough grunt for me!
