Hey all.
A mate of mine is looking at getting a 7.3m air rider plate boat built (they look amazing!!!) we live in Brisbane but the air rider factory is in WA. Just wondering if anyone in QLD owns one and wouldn't mind us coming to have a quick look at it.

Thanks heaps!
Marc

I too would be very interested in hearing any reports on Air Rider Hulls. I've don't some research on them at it seems that any competent plate alloy manufacturer should be able to build such designs as they come in kits from the Designer Gavin Mair from Global Marine Design. You wouldn't be limited to getting the boat built in WA, however your chosen design would have to come from Global Marine Design, being WA based. I hope that makes sense. I've found three WA based builders that have built Air Rider Hulls being: Fine Entry Marine, Kirby Marine & Prestoncraft, however i have yet to locate a QLD (or east coast) builder.

Cheers

I think it was one of those designs that was a Sydney ports fire tender support boat. Cost a mint and was never used , well not much in anger and like all that style of boat was impossible to hold on station with fire stuff going on. Not sure what happened to it , may still be in use and not sure if it. Always looked good but never had a good look at it and not sure who the builder was but with the points based tender system of NSW where local supplier get extra leg up and corruption on top it may have been a local builder who obviously can build to survey.

Air Rider Hulls are a form of a cathedral hull, or as described by some; 'hull form is cathedral – something like a deep-V with trainer wheels' or or simple terms a 'tri-hull' but not your tradtional tri-hull design. GLobal Marine Design do have Cat designs, but they are referred to as 'Aerocats'. Below is a pic of a current Air Rider Hull with inboard diesel. Nice Boat...bloody expensive and heavy, but nice!

$360,000 worth and I'm not going to say a lot else. NSW was the land of honey with Bob Car and Joe Tripodi

Thanks for that info shrimp. Looks like we have a bloke in Melbourne that can build it and yeah it all comes as a pack from WA. We wanted to change a few things and air rider are completely fine with it, which is great!!! just wanted to actually see one in real life before we go ahead with a 150K boat Hahahahaha
