Hi all,

Bored sitting onboard wishing I was fishing, counting down the last remaining days till home so thought I'd share a few pics from work. Nothing too exciting a few calm days, a couple of Tows, mooring retrieval and the tug i spend 6 months of the year on.

Cheers

Richo

Mate ive often wondered in big sea do the rigs sway or are the rock solid?

Depends alot on the type of Rig, working on the NW shelf of OZ most of the Rigs I go to are sitting on the bottom in depths from 40 - 150m and pretty solid. By the time they start shaking and hit with big waves we are long gone heading for shelter. Being a small rig tender (40m)most of our work is within 200nm of the coast and fortunately haven't been out there when its been too bad.. touch wood.

I am sure it can be a grind - but I imagine a lot of fun too.

Bet the weather offers some weird and wonderful days too

Thanks for sharing

3 years in the offshore now, 2 as mate and now skipper. Great job especially the ship handling, the last week has been sitting on anchor getting ready for a new contract, hence getting bored. West coast does have some interesting weather and spent last week avoiding cyclone Rusty, ending up in Exmouth. Swing started in Darwin on a 2 week Seismic Survey job then took her back to Dampier which is our home port. Lots of variety and have done jobs from Fremantle to Darwin now. Burns roughly 200L/hour at 1100rpm cruising at 10knots. Fuel carried onboard 280 000 liters . Real glad I don't pay the fuel bill!
A lot of HSE over kill and fishing isn't permitted by the company http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/08/re4uhuzu.jpg

However the subtle 3 piece 24kg T curve fits nicely in my travel bag. 😉

hey richo1
i have some advertisements in the classifieds and Ive had several blokes contact me via txt message saying they want to buy my item and they currently work on a oil rig out offshore and can i provide my bank account details for them to pay the money. Is this what you blokes do when your bored??? just kidding and it sounds like its a very interesting job.

The credit cards can sure cope a flogging when Internet is provided and your stuck at sea on a 40 x 11m space dreaming of what your going to do on your time off

Congrats on living the life I fantasise about. :)

Those prop shapes look interesting. Not at all what I would have expected.

Thanks for sharing, sound like it would be very interesting most of the time. But not being able to fish in slack time would be a bummer.

Nozzles are 2m in diameter.
Yeah would have been out there at some stage Roy. When I was on the Mermaid Guardian we towed the Maritime Dawn barge out to Pluto quite a few times.
