Hi guys,

Are they any good fishing spots located in Brisbane that are accessible by train/bus/foot? I am currently living in southbank and haven't had the chance to get away yet, so I figured if there is a good fishing hole here that would be great :). If yes what fish would there be?

Thanks.

The river near Southbank in the past has produced some meter+ threadfin salmon, big grunter, Jew, Flathead, big bream, Cod.

Water is too muddy atm.
Best bait for beginning is live herring, live prawns caught with a cast net, you can catch them off the west end pontoons when they are there.

I have not caught a fish there is a while, might be due to the floods and the bridge works, but do not think they would not be there.

Would probably go closer to the bend and stay in eddies and out of main current.

I used to catch heaps at the park at the mouth of breakfast creek. (1990-1994)
I caught plenty of Jewfish there on live bait, best was 12kg.
I caught heaps of sharks there on lives too.
I saw a 22lb Threadfin Salmon caught there on a dead prawn.
I saw a 59cm Barramundi caught there on a lure.
And I once caught a legal size Grassy Sweetlip there on small bottle squid.

Always at night, most fish on the run in tide.

Preferably somewhere close to southbank or a place when I can catch a bus too.

You can walk all the way from Kangaroo point to West end along the river.
There are pontoons and Jettys all along Westend, walkways all along Kangaroo point, structure all through souhtbank.
You can catch a bus to breakfast creek from southbank pretty quick.

Mate you wont see most folk fishing because most don't try, but fish are all along the river, just stay out of main current and get some good bait.

Yes and night time is the go.

How do the Jettys at westend go? Have you been there recently?
Prefer to go in the day time but I guess it doesn't matter :).
People don't have patience.

if day time then go early morning, stay out of fast current, nope have not been there in ages, as a matter of fact I used to catch 1m+ threadfin salmon at St Lucia.
1m+ threadies also used to be a common catch at kookaburra park.
It really depends.
Though there is a bit of bait around , and I would wait for the weather to settle a bit and the water to clear a bit.

I always used live prawns or live herring. Hvae caugh grunter, threadies, cod and bream, with the odd flattie here and there too.

I have 2 weeks off over Easter and am super keen to catch a Threadfin. So I'm leaving Yeppoon and heading down to Brisbane. I can't wait to catch one of these babys.
