Ask Lucky Phill how many millions of hours he has on his.

Like any motor if the owner can produce receipts of service work done and all authorised reputable dealers, no issue that's still young.

The hours shouldn't be a worry if it has been reasonably well treated, but starting to get a few years on it being 12 yo. That would be more of an issue for me and I would want to do a major service and inspection before heading too far out with it. So you should factor that cost into your purchase and at least have an independent checkover before handing over any significant cash.

Spaniard King on here is a Honda service man and will have the right answers. What Seafarer is it? You have to be careful about adding too much weight. I think the Hondas are around 220kg which is heavy compared to the 2 strokes of the older Seafarer's time.

500 hours is nothing to a good 4 stroke.

Thakes guys it's a hard one I'm in two minds at the moment don't no wether to just lash out and go new but it's a lot of money for a old boat being around 14-16k for a new 90 four stroke and a little less for a di two stroke but I might keep looking and try and find a newer one with a few less hours.

It's a seafarer Viking

That's nothing, it should be good for at least 3000hours. Age will be the killer not the hours.

Like they say if it has been service reguraly and the price is right for it's age go for it, have it checked over 1st for peace of mine. Both of mine 150hp have over 800hrs and the 75hp has 300hrs they get serviced every 100hrs and have not missed a beat.

The old Vikings were rated at 175 HP so that would put them in the old tech v6 range.... 180 Kgs for OMC.

I might go for a 90 four stroke cause I think 220kg will be to heavy for the old girl.if anyone knows of any one that's selling a low hour engine or thinking of trading I'm keen.thanks luke

Worth considering the 140 zuk at 186 or so kg. They're a good match to a few of the older hulls like the 17L.

500 hours is very little but the 13 years is a lot, check for corrosion that's the problem with older engines not the hours .
