Bugger, best of luck finding work. You could try sniffing around moreton bay rail project, see if any of the contractors there are hiring, not much other large work going on I am aware of.

Brisbane Airport Corporation have stage 1 underway for the new runway, be worth investigating the contractors there.
Bundaberg will have plenty of work around as well.

Bundaberg will have plenty of work around as well. Not from what I've heard from loca tradie mates. The repair work is all in the hands of 'accredited' insurance company contracors who are bringing in their own tradies. Lots of local guys still finding work hard to get. Ridiculous (and in my opinion more than a bit on the nose) but apparently true.
Good luck with the job hunt, Makita.

Im currently working in Nauru at the asylum seeker processing facility. There is massive construction work here with FIFO guysfrom aus.
The major contractor is Canstruct. They also sub contract Northcorp and another crew Otoc ( maybe otok) from aus as well. Spoke to a guy at the pub a week or 2 ago said theyre always looking for tradies.
Worth a look. Ive heard the moneys great, conditions suck. Hot as hell and pretty basic though......

Just googled Otoc. Pretty sure the guy was saying Canstruct just oversee it, most manpower is Otoc. Thats your best bet if youre keen. Did have an email address ( got it for a builder mate) can chase if interested.

Makita, (Hey I am a Makita guy too!)
May I suggest, that although I am not in your industry, go knock on some doors.
Find businesses, ask who hires, and go stand in front of them.
Wear your boots, work clothes, as if to say "I can start here for you NOW"
And say "Thanks for your time, hope you have a productive week..".
Yes you will get replies like "I don't know/I don't care/what are you again?"
Just keep looking.
Then go back 3 days later.
Do the same thing again.
You would be amazed how few people are doing that.
See it like this: it is like going fishing.
It does not matter how well equipped or experienced you are. You still have to get out there, look for the right fish and try to lure them.....
Good luck Mate.

Thanks Pauly , I've knocked down every door I can think of looking for contract work etc but everywhere seems to be dead ! But according to the government fellas on tv the other night the building industry in se qld is booming ! Don't know where they get their stats . Last year I had no dramas landing contract after contract but this year it's like Swt I'll let u know more when I do , u know anyone with a tube ? I got a couple of wakeboards trying to find a needle in a haystack. Hopefully it picks up after Easter . Thanks for all the tips fellas .

All types mate , I love building houses of any style ! I got burned quite bad by a very big building company & dodgy business partner which put me off housing and nearly cost me everything. I would love to get back into it for the right company , formwork drains the passion you have for carpentry after a while !

Problem is the weather at the moment. Hardly any slabs gone down since Aus day. I will pm u a few builders to try tomorrow if I get a chance but obviously times are pretty tuff so can't promise anything.
