am thinking of buying a open tinny instead of another boat i had in mind that needed a bit of welding i thought this forum would be best to ask for pictures does anyone own large open tiller steer tinnies? like the following models
horizon angler 445, 465
clark magnum 445
seajay magnum 4.4, 4.55

any pics will be appreciated as our sydney dealers dont stock any of the big basic tinnies so i'd have to order one in without seeing it

Here you go my old Bluefin 4.5 Warrior........great little boat......they acctually measure 4.75...i had a 60 Yammie 4strk on it and it was a great setup with plenty of open room and storage under the cast deck. With 3mm bottom and sides they are a well built tinny.

I paid 8k in 07' new........proberbly more now but have a look at the Viking model......bit more bare bones and they were alot cheaper at the time.......same hull but only have floor and flotation as standard but can be speced up to suit.
Remember you get what you pay for aswell.
You could also speak to Origin aswell..........you may be surprised at what they can do for the money...well worth a chat.

Mate keep and eye out for an allycraft Sioux 445 or Indian 465 or Brave 525. Big deep beamy tinnies and strong. I used to have the 445 Sioux and had the rear thwart removed and a full floor in. You will find some like this with full floor or you could stepup to the Tank!

I'm running a 50HP TLDI Tohatsu and it's a pretty good combo, I paid around 13.2K turnkey and the only thing I would change is the trailer, It's a bit light on and is starting to corrode in places already and I have read that the Brooker trailers aren't very good but having said that I have towed this thing all over the place and it is standing up to the task
The TLDI has been very good, Starts easy and uses bugger all fuel/oil but won't run without a battery and no pull start so that's a consideration too, Over all I'm happy with the combo it's doing everything I want from it

Hey mate, If you like the seajay you would be better off with the Territory model for a true open boat. The magnum as thwart seats which restricts a bit of room while the territory has pedestal seats and a full floor. My bro has the 435 model and I like it. Pretty stable boat. The sides are thin though, the specs say 1.6mm.

I have a 4.4 Territory, great general purpose close water boat. Powered by a 40HP gives me all the power and speed I need. Only fault I can find with this model is it is a bit wet in a chop. I know tinnies are wet but this model is a bit wetter than most.

Just do a quick trip to Wollongong, almost all the dealers here will have plenty of that style of boat in stock, there is 4 within quite close distance of each other, and between them, you could have the choice of Merc, Yamaha, Suzuki or Honda motors fitted, the closest one to me (Stacer dealer) has got at least 3-4 in stock that I saw from the road coming to work this morning! if you shop wisely, I am sure you will get a good deal.

yep, we have (I think) Stacer, Savage, Quintrex (all by Telwater) and some others too, not being in the market, I do not know for sure what brands they all keep along with the "big 3", but I think one of them also has Clark, but I could be wrong, give them a call and ask.

Not wanting to hijack this thread as I to am looking for a boat in the 4.5 - 5 m range, so keep the pics coming. However I don't know if a tiller steer or a side console is the better option for me. What are your thoughts on side console boats.

I personally prefer a centre console, even if it is a small sit down one, never been a fan of side consoles, but then, that's just my preference. Tiller steer has all sorts of advantages, but then a few disadvantages, biggest problem is when boating alone, you at the back, motor at the back, fuel and battery at the back......, same, in a way is why I dont like a side console, if alone, the boat is off balance, but this time to one side (in my opinion only)
