I am thinking about buying a new Quintrex boat and trailer package here in south east Qld. I will be using it solely for river fishing. Any recommendations for what size Mercury motor i should use?? There will be only me and the missus with 2 small children in it at any one time. Would a 15 hp be adequate for what i want to do? What about the best dealerships to purchase he boat from??

15hp on the 370 30hp on the 390, with the 390 and a 30hp you'd be able to pull a tube or knee board too once the kids grow up, place in tweed does the 390 package for $6990 Just had a look on Boatpoint

Definitely go the 390 with 30 hp mate. I have had both these boats over the years and the 370 with a 15 hp will only be good for two adults with fishing gear, etc. Once you go over that weight she tends to be a bit slow to get out of the hole and you will wish you had the extra hp, even though these boats do plane quite easily will lower hp.

Cheers,

Mick.

I had a 385 explorer.....the older type 99' model and i put a 40hp Tohatsu on it......now i was doing long 100+k trips down some of the rivers.

IMO a 30 would be fine.......i started off with a 25 on mine and luckily had the opportunity to sell it for what i paid for and put the 40hp on,no it did'nt fly it did around 50kph but it could get up on the plane quicky while loaded.

If lightly loaded with only 2 onboard a 25hp would do the job,

hi mate i have a bermuda 3.75 vee nose punt i use a 18 hp LS tohatsu that goes well and its about the max i can lift on and off the transom and i have a ob trolley to wheel it to the boat - if you have to manhandle the OB on and off it forget about any thing bigger unless your a front rower or have a mate to help - but for you the missus and 2 small kids i really think i would be looking at a 4.0m or bigger with a min 25 or 30 HP and rig on a trailer - as for the missus and 2 kids you will need a bit of room and a bit of high sides safety is good for the kids

suggest read the article on springwood marine in this section and then make up your own mind where perhaps to buy
